After we ate something I settled in my room, laying face up on my bed and staring at the ceiling, pondering the holiday past. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. “Come in!” I called.
It was Tay. Smiling, she said “Hey hey. I come bearing the rest of your bags! Do you want me to… help you unpack? Then I wanna hear all about your lake house getaway!”
I laughed at my sister and motioned for her to come in. She dropped the bags and closed the door, moving to a corner of my room to turn on the radio. Summer Paradise played through the speakers. Smiling, she turned to me and flopped on the bed. “So, lets get started. And this would also be when you start telling me!”
I smiled and zipped open a suitcase, getting a pile of clothes out and starting to sort them with Tay. “Okay well, you better be in the mood to listen, a lot happened on this trip, I’m warning you now!”
She nodded and waved her hand at me. “Yeah yeah just start already.”
I giggled and began to tell her what we did, day by day. “Yeah umm so I kinda might have admitted something that I’ve been in denial about for a while to Hayley…”
She gasped in mock surprise and said “What?!”
“Umm it’s nothing really it’s just that… I finally admitted I…” I took a deep breath, hesitating before saying, relatively quickly, “I finally admitted out loud that I like Nate, but as more than a friend but I don’t wanna ruin our friendship by getting into anything more and I’m pretty convinced he doesn’t feel the same way anyways so it’s all good!”
She stopped sorting through the suitcase and gave me a look that told me I was a complete idiot. I gave her the same look back and shrugged. “What? Why would you look at me like that for?! You know it’s true!”
She continued to look at me and sighed. “Aly, you're a total idiot! He’s into you! Come on I’ve seen the way he looks at you… and I know that he slept over that one time, on the balcony with you!”
I raised a finger, ready to butt in and make my point but she cut me off. “No don’t butt in just listen! Friends. Don’t. Do. That! He has some feelings for you, and you need to tell him! But when is the question…”
I snorted. My sister has a boyfriend and has always been good at picking up these things… I mean, not that Hayley wasn’t but you know, Taylor is my sister. Sighing and running a hand through my hair I said “Well, I… I haven’t really talked to him about it since the lake house but we decided to both study together… maybe after exams I’ll tell him?”
She nodded excitedly and continued with the sorting. “And you know that if you don’t do what you just said you would, I’ll force you to. And if you don’t do it, I’ll tell him myself okay? Okay!”
I laughed softly at my sisters antics and will to make me do the unthinkable. I shook my head slightly as we continued to fold and sort my stuff.
***********
The rest of the holidays passed in one big blur, movies, shopping, sleepovers, hanging out, parties, and then getting ready for the start of school.
And before I knew it we were back.
I walked through the school doors, searching for Hayley, Liam or Nate. I couldn’t see them anywhere in the hallway as of yet, so I just walked over to my locker to get my books for the morning out. I smiled at a few girls that were in my History class on the way there, stopping to speak to one of them. “Hey Aly! How was your break?”
It was Milly, I sat next to her. Smiling, I waved and said “Hey! My break was amazing, I went to Hayley’s Aunt’s lake house for the first half, aw god it was soo good! What about you?”
