It was cold out. And she didn't want to come out of the warmth inside. He stared at her, probably wondering what the hell was this woman still doing in his car.

"You aren't coming out, are you?" He asked in a husky tone that Kaarina just realized she was absolutely infatuated with.

Kaarina narrowed her gaze at him and looked up at her condo complex. It was dark up there except for one room; the living room. She didn't even need to double check. Her mother was waiting on her. She might have paid over ten million bucks for the place, but her mother was a force not to be reckoned with. Kaarina might have been Spanish, but her mother was the only white woman she knew with such fiery-temper. No wonder her dad loved her.

"I don't know what to say," she said before turning to the hot guy beside her. "Is there any place you know I could camp out for the night at a low cost?"

"Sorry, beautiful," he told her with a shake of his head. "I can't help you there. I haven't went camping since I was five. You could stay at my place if you want though."

Kaarina worked the options in her head. Sex God? Or Crazed Mother? Yep, Sex God was looking real appealing at the moment. But she couldn't do it. She wasn't that type of person. But he was a stranger. Most importantly, she was a stranger to him. But whether or not she liked it, she would have to face the inevitable, her mother. Although she would prefer dealing with it on a latter date.

"Um..." she started trying to think of another way to escape her mother. "Well, thanks again. I'm truly indebted to you."

He gave her sweet smile that made her weak in the knees. Gush, he was gorgeous. She was pretty sure he knew that already. This was confirmed when his smile turned into a smirk when she almost tripped over her own feet as she tumbled out of the car.

"I'm okay!" She said too quickly, almost falling over again. What was wrong with her? She was never this disoriented before. She wouldn't be an entrepreneur and independent woman if she wasn't.

"May I ask what is it you are afraid to meet inside your home?" He inquired, the amusement in his voice was almost palpable.

She rolled her eyes at him. It was quite a habit her mother always reprimanded her for doing, but she couldn't help. He was just too...she couldn't even describe it. He was different yes, but so was every guy out there.

But what made him special? Kaarina shook her head at her internal ridicule. He might be hot, but he is crazy for even giving me the time of the day.

"Hey," he called when she started to make a beeline to the complex. She turned around to face him right beside her. Her body tensed, acutely aware of his body. "You forgot something."

It took awhile, but his words finally made its way through the haze. She glanced up at him as he handed her something that seemed so irrelevant at the moment. What did she know about this man? He was gorgeous which was obvious. As if reading her thoughts he gave her one of those panty-melting grins. She felt her heart hammering against her chest trying to burst out. Dios mio, this cannot be good.

"I had put my number in there," he said looking down at the object her hand had in a death grip. She automatically glanced down as well. It was her phone. "Yeah, so you can call me. But don't give anyone else, okay?"

Her tongue felt like lead in her mouth and her thoughts were still all over the place. So she simply nodded. Being at loss of words was something new for her and she couldn't understand it. He rewarded her with one last flash of his pearly white teeth before leaving her.

She watched as his Porsche drove off, his red tail lights taunting her to follow. Kaarina shook her head at how foolish she had been around him. It was only right that she never saw him again.

Walking through the deadly quiet hallway, Kaarina glanced warily at the walls, anticipating some cruel monster to come out and kill her in the brightly lit room. The receptionist nodded her way and she returned it quickly before scurrying to the elevators which were guarded by statue security guards. She might have paid an arm and a leg for their services, she felt dread instead of protection from the cold stares.

Thankfully, the chime of the elevator doors saved her the scrutiny and she slipped in immediately. Punching in the private code for her floor, she leaned against the cold stainless steel mirror wall of the confined space. The coldness was a welcome addition to her sizzling hot skin. She had let out a tiny sigh before shutting her eyes. The busy day at the restaurant was taking its toll.

Early mornings were definitely not her thing, she thought. It was quite the opposite.

Besides from the fact that she couldn't feel the elevator moving, she still felt her stomach churning. With what? She had no idea because despite working around and making mountains of food, she did not get a bite to eat from breakfast at Mr. Vittorio's house which he had insisted about. She guessed it was the guilt of being absent for most of the day on the first real opening day of her restaurant. She couldn't help but be amused that she didn't even get to put up the pictures. But it would definitely wait until another day. Not in the morning though.

Kaarina jolted up from her too short nap by the elevator abrupt stop. Yanking out the key card out of her pocket, she shoved it into the card hole and waited for the greenlight to show that it was granted before the elevator doors finally opened. She stumbled into her foyer, feeling a little groggy from the short nap. Her brain was screaming at her to hit her bed before she fell to the floor, but she was finding it difficult to go the few metres to her bed.

"I see you are home," her mother said quietly from the fairly medium size living room, in front of her favourite soap opera. The name of the show was out of Kaarina's grasp, she had more important things to remember. Like putting one foot in front of the other.

"Do you need any help getting to bed, Kay?" Her mother asked with her eyes still trained on the television.

"No," was the only word that managed to bubble out of her mouth. She was that tired and all adrenaline had definitely worn off.

After a couple more agonising feet, Kaarina finally held the doorknob of her bedroom in her hand. But before she could turn it, she felt another hand on hers turning the doorknob for her.

"Let's get you to bed," her mother mumbled which was unheard by Kaarina as she quickly made her way into her small bedroom.

With a groan, she leaped into her bed leaving all consciousness to the wind.

For a long moment, her mother stared at her silently, her dull green eyes observing the small form of her daughter. She moved to cover her daughter with the duvet and that's when it all made sense.

"Well, Kay Kay," her lightly wrinkled hand patted the brown mop of mess on Kaarina's head. "Get as much sleep as you can. That man will have to wait until I drill every information out of you."

Kaarina made no response, and with a satisfied smile, Mrs. Kaleb lightly strolled out of the room, leaving the door half open.

A/N: I might change or delete this chapter. It's quite short and boring. Tell me what you all think though. Merci!
