Kaarina was furious at him. Calling his cellphone was useless, so she decided to head over to his business. There, she was informed that he had already gone home for the night.
Flagging down a cab, she tried to remain calm. But she apparently wasn't doing a good job since the taxi driver kept glancing her way through the rear mirror cautiously as if he was expecting her to explode any moment. And probably she should.
Kaarina shook her head, squaring her shoulders and jutting her chin out when the taxi braked in front of the apartment building of his lavish Manhattan home.
Kaarina handed the taxi man a fifty without asking how much it was. He grinned at her and Kaarina knew she had given him more than enough.
Walking inside, she was greeted by security guards and a receptionist behind a circled counter who gave her a heart warming smile. Kaarina stopped, wondering why the woman was so smiley faced. She looked down to see she was in her working clothes. She then glanced at the still beaming woman and shrugged before approaching the receptionist.
"Hello ma'am," the receptionist greeted her pleasantly, making direct eye contact. She had cobalt blue eyes that Kaarina found breathtaking. No wonder she is making eye contact, Kaarina thought, assuming that the woman was just showing off her beautiful eyes. But Kaarina had to admit that though. She didn't really have an ego to be bruised in admitting that. "Welcome to Vittorio's Home Complex. I am Clara Taylor, how may I be of assistance?"
Kaarina froze. Did she just say Vittorio? Kaarina couldn't believe he owned the entire place. But then again, she shouldn't be surprised. He was a billionaire.
"Well, um..." Kaarina leaned forward as if telling a dirty secret. "I am here to see Achilles Theopolis Vittorio. It's urgent"
Kaarina didn't know why she added his middle name. Probably for ensuring the receptionist got exactly who she was looking for. But Kaarina knew it was because she always called him by his middle name when they were younger. Granted, it was actually Theo, she still somehow wanted to hold on to that familiarity. She hoped that would work for making her act more rational if she thought of him as a friend than the guy she haven't even slept with trying to take control of her life.
Dios mio! She was just glad she never did sleep with him. That would just complicate things.
But there was still the niggling thought that if the opportunity presented itself again, she would jump him without a second thought.
"Ma'am?" Kaarina blinked, coming out of her reverie. The receptionist greeted her back to reality with a white Colgate smile. "Mr. Vittorio will see you. Just go right up to floor twenty-four."
Kaarina nodded, muttering a quick thanks as she scurried to one of the gold elevators that just opened to let off someone.
She hurriedly pressed the button that had the number twenty-four and only one initial, V. That was different from the other buttons as they had three initials with a number.
She glanced up at the security cameras, unaware of the tiny ones built in the walls around her. It all felt unnerving for her to be in such an obviously lavished placed. She noticed the runway red carpet that covered the middle of the marble floor to stop near the elevators. Kaarina didn't get a good look at the furniture in the hall, but everything had gleamed and she didn't need to look properly to know they were all expensive and stylish.
Her eyes roamed the inside of the elevator with its gold furnishes and clean look along with its bright light. Kaarina wondered how Achilles survived being at her apartment building. She might have thought hers was the most lavish she had ever seen. This had beaten her place by at least a billion miles. And she knew his condo was going to be spectacular. Even the elevator music was good.
