Josh and Tyler have been dating for a couple months now and, still, the only person they told was Joan, Josh's mom.
Now, though, they were walking home from school and were just about to turn into Josh's house when Tyler heard his name being called.
"Tyler!" He heard his mother yell from across the street. It was Tuesday. Usually she'd be working.
"Hi, mom." He stepped away from Josh. They both had puzzled looks plastered upon their faces. "What are you, uh- What are you doing home? I thought you had work."
"I came home early. Your father is inside as well." She said, coming across the street and meeting the two boys. "Hello, Josh. How are you?"
"Fine, thanks. And yourself?" Josh asked, hesitantly. He knew she was just being polite. The gesture was obviously empty.
"I'm well, thank you. If you don't mind I'd like Tyler to come home. Alone is preferred." She nodded.
"Right, of course." He replied. Tyler stood there awkwardly, not wanting to go home right now but he eventually gave in. He walked with his mom across the street and into the house. When he got inside, he saw that his dad was sitting at the dinning room table waiting for them both.
"Have a seat please." His mom said, almost robotic.
"Okay..." He was officially creeped out. It felt like he was about to get murdered or something. Tyler felt his phone vibrate in his pocket and automatically knew it was Josh, asking him to tell him what happened when it was over. He smiled to himself and sat down.
"We just wanted to talk to you about something." He heard his dad say. "It's something important so, please, take it seriously." Tyler nodded for them to continue.
"We know we haven't been here in a while and we haven't been communicating but we're glad you found a friend." Tyler's mom, Jennifer, began.
"We know that having a friend is great for you, but we feel like Josh isn't... fit for you." Tyler's dad, Tom, told him. Tyler looked at him like he was crazy.
"What does that mean?" Tyler asked. He was confused and irritated at the same time.
"He's a bad influence, Tyler, and we don't want you hanging around him anymore." Jennifer said blatantly.
"No, you can't do that. How is he a bad influence?" He said, shooting up from his seat.
"Well, for one, he's gay and-" Tyler was furious and lost it.
"Okay?! So what?! What, does being gay make you a bad person now?!" Tyler shouted.
"In this house?! Yeah, It fucking does, Tyler! It's not acceptable! Now sit down so we can talk!" Tom screamed back. Tom was a lot more vocal than he was. Tyler probably sounded like a mouse compared to him. Jennifer sat there, crying. What right did she have to cry right now? Nothing was happening to her. Reluctantly, Tyler sat down but he felt a lump in his throat. He tried his best to swallow it.
"Now, like we were saying, we don't want you hanging around him anymore. You aren't to speak to him, go over his house, walk with him or call him." Tyler was now sobbing uncontrollably and couldn't talk. He managed to get one question out though.
"Why?" He choked. "Why... can't I talk to Josh anymore?" This time Jennifer spoke up.
"Because... I know you like him. I won't let him take away my son. I won't let him turn you gay." She muttered.
"He can't turn me gay if I already was..." Tyler whispered. He thought no one could hear him but he knew he was wrong once he felt the pain of a slap right across the face by manly hands. Tyler didn't have the chance to talk because, before he knew it, he was being pushed out of the house and being told to come back when he chooses the "correct" sexuality.
