It was now week three of Tyler living with Josh and his mom. His parents had moved after about a week of kicking Tyler out and didn't bother telling him 'goodbye' or even where they went. Tyler couldn't care less though. They made their point and he was getting by just fine.
Tyler thought living with Josh and Joan was really cool. He'd never been in this kind of atmosphere before and he liked it. It was a lot different from the one he grew up in. Before no one was ever home and he often spent many nights alone, hunched over the counter and eating whatever he microwaved but now he had home cooked meals and he ate them with real people. Those of which were home most of the time, not making him lonely. He liked the changed.
Though, with these changes, school was getting a little tougher. It was like everyone knew Josh and Tyler had been dating and were now staying together because they kept walking by and slurring the word "fag" their way with the occasional pushing.
Brendon was the main offender, really. He got some of his friends to join in on it but not many. Others, like that Kellin kid, refused to be apart of it. Ever since he met Vic Fuentes he's changed a lot towards Josh and Tyler, and in general. He and Vic even sat with Tyler and Josh once and discovered the two were a pretty cool pair. Naturally, Brendon didn't like this and began targeting all four of them, giving them a hard time virtually every day over the past couple of weeks.
Right now, Josh was walking Tyler to class and chatting up a storm so Tyler could get his mind off things. It wasn't working too well though because Tyler kept thinking of other things.
"Ty? Are you listening?" Josh asked. He tapped his shoulder a few times before he even got Tyler's attention.
"Um, no, sorry. I'm just a little stressed." He sighed, stopping at the classroom door.
"About what?" Josh tilted his head in confusion. He had plenty of time to get to his next class so talking to Tyler was no trouble.
"This whole Brendon thing? I don't like the way he treats us, Josh. It's rude and it's bullying and I want it to stop." He expressed, looking at Josh with anger-filled eyes.
"I know, I don't like it either. I'll try putting a stop to it, okay?" Josh said, taking Tyler's hands in his own.
"Okay..."
"Listen, meet me on the bleachers after class okay?" Josh said after a minute of thought. He had a plan to get Tyler's spirits up and he was sure it would work.
"Alright. I'll see you there. Now, get to class, Josh." Tyler teased, smiling. Josh nodded and looked around to see if anyone was nearby before kissing Tyler on the cheek and jogging off so he wasn't late for class.
---
It was a couple of minutes before Tyler could actually meet Josh at the bleachers. He kept getting stopped by office administration for not being in lunch.
"Hey!" Tyler exclaimed, sitting right down next to Josh and giving him a kiss. "Sorry I'm late." He pouted.
"You're fine, babe." He smiled, placing Tyler closer to him so he could wrap his arm around his waist.
"So, why'd you want me out here again? Can't be for the view. Though, I must admit, the sight of green-colored turf makes my life one-hundred percent better." Tyler joked, leaning into his boyfriend.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Josh laughed. "I wanted to ask you something."
"Well then, on with it, lad." He said, purposely sounding like a rich, British man. Josh smiled and turned so he was facing him.
"I was wondering if you wanted to go on a date with me tonight. It's Friday and I thought you could use a little break." He shrugged, placing his hand on Tyler's knee. He felt him relax at the touch.
"I would love to, Joshy." Tyler said, pulling him in a hug.
"Great! So, Joshy is a new one." Josh told him, chuckling. He could get used to the cute nick name Tyler assigned him.
"Yeah well, I thought it was cute so it fits you." Tyler laughed.
"Well thank you, cutie. I like it very much." Josh said, kissing Tyler's forehead and standing him up so they could both walk inside.
They went to their last classes and got home, greeting Joan as they walked inside. They went to separate rooms and got ready for their night instead of hanging out beforehand. Josh had told Tyler to look his best for what he had planned and Tyler couldn't be happier.
He got all dressed up in black jeans and red vans with a red flannel and a white shirt underneath. He looked in the mirror and smiled, approving of his look. Tyler jogged down the stairs to wait of Josh because he knew he took a while to get ready. One time, when they went out, it took Josh over a half an hour.
"Oh, hi, Tyler. What's going on?" Joan asked, turning down the volume on the TV as Tyler sat down on the opposite couch.
"Nothing. Just waiting for Josh. He's taking me out tonight." He beamed.
"Is he now?" Joan asked, jokingly laughing.
"Yep!" Tyler couldn't stop smiling. "I'm real excited for it."
"I can tell, sweetheart. You two have fun, okay?" Joan said, nodding.
"I will. Josh is a really great person." He complimented. Joan smiled wide. She was proud to have raised a good son. "And I just wanted to thank you again. You were so willing to take me in and I sincerely wish I could repay you for that."
"Dear, I told you. I really don't mind. I see you as a good person and an even better boyfriend to my Josh. He's changed after meeting you and you've repaid me enough. You made him happy." She said. Tyler couldn't say anything, as Josh walked fully into the room and asked if he was ready to head out.
"Yeah." He said. Josh smiled but had heard their whole conversation. He, too, was glad Tyler came into his life. He knew that his mom just wanted him to be happy and now he was, all thanks to Ty.
"Alright, let's go." Josh cooed, putting his arm out for Tyler to connect his with.
"Where are you taking me?" Tyler asked as he held his boyfriend's hand.
"To the beach. I want to relax with you." Josh told him, smiling.
"Sounds romantic." Tyler said. Josh just replied with a kiss.
When they got to the beach, Josh laid out a blanket so they could sit and not get sand all over themselves. He took Tyler's hand and sat him down, making sure they were comfortable in each other's arms.
After a while of sitting there, listening to the waves and looking at the stars, Tyler spoke up.
"Hey, Josh?"
"Yeah, sweetheart?" He responded, pulling him a bit closer.
"Why'd you decide to take me on a date tonight?"
"I just felt like you needed a break from school. I know Brendon has been picking on us lately and I know it's my fault, mainly-"
"Woah, wait." Tyler interrupted. "Why do you think it's your fault. You didn't do anything wrong, you know that."
"No, I know, but if it weren't for me Brendon and his stupid friends wouldn't be picking on you and I'm sorry for that."
"Don't be sorry, Josh. I love you and it's really not your fault. We're in this together, right?" He gave Josh a small smile and snuggled into his chest.
"Right. I love you too, Ty." Josh responded, kissing the top of Tyler's head ans sighing. He was so thankful for someone who made him feel so normal and at ease.
They spent the rest of their night holding each other and relaxing. It was just what they needed after a long and stressful week like the one they endured.
