It was six o'clock when Josh began getting ready. He was so anxious and he didn't know what to wear or what to even expect. He stood there in his closet, looking at his clothing choices. Was he supposed to look nice? Casual? Laid back? Fancy? Josh groaned and whipped out his cell phone, dialing Tyler's number.
"Hey there, Joshy Boy. What's up?" Tyler sang into the phone.
"What am I supposed to wear to this thing?" Josh said, getting right to the point.
"Someone sounds irritated." Tyler chuckled.
"I am! Now, what the fuck should I wear on this secretive date?" Josh expressed. He was just a ball full of nerves and he couldn't think straight.
"Okay, okay, relax. Just wear what you usually wear. You'll look great!" Tyler replied. Josh could practically hear his smile.
"Alright, I still don't know what that means. I wear a lot of stuff, Ty." Josh said, sighing.
"Yeah but it doesn't matter because you'll look cute either way. I have to go now but I'll see you at eight." Tyler told Josh.
"Fine. See you then, Ty." He said, hanging up the phone. Josh decided to just take a shower and relax for a bit considering he had two hours to figure this out.
---
By the time 7:30 rolled around, Josh still wasn't ready and was pacing around the room while his mom helped him pick something out. He felt like a teenage girl in a late 90s movie.
"Honey, why are you so nervous to wear clothes?" Joan giggled. Her son was acting ridiculous.
"It's not that I'm nervous to wear clothes. It's that I'm nervous to pick clothes out and have them not be good for what he has planned!" Josh threw his hands up and sat on the bed.
"Okay, what did Tyler tell you on the phone?" She sat down next to him.
"He said I should just wear what I usually wore because it'd be cute but cute doesn't really help me out right now, mom." Josh laid back on his bed.
"It helps you out plenty. Now get up and go over to your closet and pick something out that you think looks nice. Then come over to me." She ordered, pulling Josh up by the hand. He mumbled a 'Fine' and began picking out clothes. He chose a tan-ish V-neck shirt that had black, horizontal lines across the sleeves and a pair of black skinny jeans with a regular pair of Vans then brought it over to his mom, laying it out on the bed.
"There." He pointed.
"See? That looks fine! Now you stay here and get changed while I go downstairs." Joan instructed Josh. She loved helping Josh like this. It wasn't everyday she helped her son get ready for a date.
"Alright thanks, mom." Josh said, hugging his mom. He closed the door and got dressed in the sprawled out clothing, taking a long look in the mirror to make sure everything was in place. When he thought he looked okay, he jogged down the steps only to see Tyler was already at the door, talking with his mom.
"Josh, look! Tyler's here!" Joan exclaimed to her son.
"I see. Hey there, Ty." Josh said, coming all the way down the steps and greeting Tyler. He smiled at what he was wearing, thinking he looked cuter than what him. Tyler was dressed in a blue button down shirt with black pants and black Vans.
"Hey, Josh. Ready to go?" He asked.
"Yeah, let's go." Josh quickly hugged his mom and opened the door so they could both leave.
"Oh my goodness, you two are so cute." Joan cooed. He had a huge smiled spread across her face as she watched her son and his date leave. "Have fun!" They both smiled and waved, beginning down the sidewalk.
---
"You look really nice, Ty." Josh complimented. He got through with the flattering remark with out being awkward and silently congratulated himself.
"Thanks." Tyler looked over at him, smiling. "You do too. I told you you'd look cute." Josh just blushed.
"So, where are we going anyways?" Josh finally asked. The question had been gnawing at him all day.
"We are going to go swimming. I assume you're wearing a bathing suit under those clothes?" Tyler replied. He laughed as he saw Josh's eyes go wide and mouth drop low.
"What?!" Josh panicked.
"Oh my god, no! No, I'm kidding, Josh!" Tyler laughed. He was dying while Josh just stood there, giving him a death glare.
"Tyler, don't do that! I was freaking out for hours of what to wear!" Josh explained. It really would've been bad news if Tyler had been serious.
"I know! That's why I took it upon myself to mess with you. You're too on edge, lighten up." Tyler slung an arm around Josh's shoulder and continued to walk with him, leading the way as they went.
"True... So can I have a real answer?" Josh asked.
"There's your answer." Tyler pointed out rocks that rested on the beach before them. They had a great view of the ocean and the rocks didn't get wet so the two could sit peacefully. Tyler climbed onto them with Josh in tow and sat down, resting his head on Josh's shoulder.
"I'm glad you agreed to do this with me, Josh." Tyler said.
"I am too. It's beautiful out here." Josh wrapped both his arms around Tyler's waist and rested them there.
"Isn't it? I was out here all day trying to find the perfect spot for us and I was so excited when I finally found one."
"Well you picked something great, I must say." Josh said. He took Tyler's hand and intertwined their fingers. Tyler's hand felt so warm in his and he liked the fit.
"You're being cute again." Tyler whined, moving his face to the inside of Josh's chest. He just chuckled.
"Yeah but not as cute as you." He told him, pulling Tyler closer. Tyler lightly hit his chest with his free hand and smiled.
"You're a sap, shush." Tyler said softly. Josh lifted Tyler's face with his hand and smiled down at him.
"You're really cute, you know."
"I know now." Tyler blushed. Josh swept down and kissed Tyler and that's how they mainly spent their date. It was a night full of bliss complete with sweet affection and talks about nothing too specific.
Soon, Tyler was walking with Josh back home hand in hand, both with smiles on their faces.
"So, I'll see you tomorrow?" Tyler asked, dropping Josh off at his house before going to his own.
"Yep." Josh smiled greatly. He had a great time tonight and only wished for there to be more nights like the one he experienced.
"Great." Tyler smiled back before leaning in and giving Josh a good night kiss. "Have a goodnight, Josh."
"You too, Ty." Josh finished and walked inside. He was tired but couldn't stop smiling. He went to bed with a smile and woke up with one and he kind of hoped it never went away.
