"Come on, I'll take you to Control now." Professor Parvivi put the chair back where it had come from and walked out of the classroom at a speed Lena hadn't previously known was possible on wedges.
Soon they entered a classroom that was abnormally clean and all in a shade of blinding white or spotless black.
"This is Lena Kanstrofi, your new student. She needed to speak briefly with Madam Arach, so she had to be late. I will leave her with you for this period and collect her at the end. She has to talk with Madam Arach again." Every eye turned to her and Lena felt her cheeks burn. The floor suddenly seemed to look very interesting. Did everyone know about her falling over backwards already?
"Lena, take a seat. I'm Professor Iri. Welcome to Control." Professor Iri was a tall woman with bright red eyes in a tight-fitting faded blue dress, ending at the middle of her thighs, completed with cream colored high heels. Her hair, like the dress, seemed to be bleached and faded, and the only thing different about it was that it was blond, not blue. She seemed a bit worn out, but very authoritative.
Lena made her way among the tangle of desks, feeling like a piece of prey being stalked by a pack of lions. She ended up in the back of the classroom.
"Oh, hi! It's so great to meet you! I'm Ellevet Valgetine." A girl to her left chirruped, startling Lena. Lena twisted around and saw a tall lanky girl with stringy blond hair and red eyes glaring at her. The red eyes meant that she was a full Vampire, if your eyes were red all of the time (not like Lena's), you had a Vampire mother and father. If your eyes were any other color than red some of the time, then you had didn't have only Vampire blood. She leaned closer to Lena and hissed angrily, "So, you think you can just come here and be the little innocent savior of all Vampires and steal my popularity? Think again, bitch."
"Um, yeah thanks for the kind words..." Lena muttered and was about to turn around to concentrate on what Professor Iri was saying.
"Kanstrofi! Valgetine! There will be time to chat later but I will not tolerate talking in my classroom while I am teaching!"
"I'm sorry Professor Iri, Lena simply asked me a question and I was answering." She simpered.
"Kanstrofi, this is your first warning, I'll let you off because it's you first day, but you should know: I do not tolerate talking in my classroom!"
"But Professor Iri, I didn't start-"
"Not another word."
Lena turned and glared, but Ellevet simply smiled at her and turned back to her lesson. With on last message Ellevet hissed, "You are going to be sorry you ever found out you were a Vampire."
"Oh my god, do you not get this? I totally don't want to be popular, okay?" Lena snapped, annoyed.
"Kanstrofi, Valgetine. This is your absolute last warning, and if you do not stop talking right now, there will be some serious consequences. Understood? Good. As I was saying, before I was so rudely interrupted, you have to be very careful if you go out into the Human world because you could end up in a fix if you just start tearing into flesh just because you're hungry. There are ways to prevent this though. First, if you are not full Vampire it's easier because you don't have full instincts. If some instinct does take over and you feel the need to go suck someone's blood, then you can contact a Vampire Help Agency, or a VHA." She paused to write VHA on the board, then continued, "If something happened and you can't contact the or a VHA, then-" A bell rang loud and clear. "Class dismissed." she growled, angry she couldn't finish. "Wait!" Professor Iri yelled over the chattering voices, "Your homework is to come prepared to class to talk in the next discussion!"
"You need to stay away from me, bitch."
"Yeah, okay. God, got problems much?" Lena slid past her as fast as she could and made a break for the door, but Ellevet grabbed her by the hair. Not wanting to be seen Professor Parvivi who would be picking Lena up, she smiled sweetly and said,
"See you tomorrow!"
"I see you already made a friend Lena!" Lena heard as she neared the door.
"Not really." Lena muttered, digging her fingernails into her palm. Ellevet, she had to think that I was here to steal her popularity, and, well, news flash to her, but I don't want to even be noticed. Lena thought angrily.
"Oh?" Professor Parvivi raised an eyebrow, but didn't say anything else.
They soon reached Madam Arach's office, and the professor let her in, but did not follow. She simply walked out, closing to door behind her.
Madam Arach said, "Now Lena, I'll explain everything. As you learned in Powers class, you can See into the present, future, or the past. But you can also See through things like walls, or See into people's minds, reading them. You can See everything. When you get a rare Power like this, being a Seer, which is not simply rare, it's unheard of. You're the second in all of known history. So, it is much, much more than just rare. This is what I will give you, to guide you through times when you need help. This is a Phoenix who is descended from the Phoenix that belonged to the first Seer."
"Wow." Lena took the fragile bird into her arms. "What's her name?" she asked as the creature made itself a nest in her careful arms.
"You decide." The headmistress settled back in her chair, crossing her legs and smiling.
"All right... um... Pheze? No. Phitsbergert? NO. Phelix? Uh uh. Phelicia!" she looked down at Phelicia, "Hello Phelicia." Then she turned to Madam Arach, "Can she sleep in my room? Do I have to feed her?"
"Yes, she'll follow you around during classes, outside, almost anywhere. But not underwater, she is a creature of fire and being in water would mean death. She doesn't need to be fed, you simply need to let her out so she can gather her food."
Lena grinned, thinking suddenly of walking into Control the next day with Phelicia following her and sitting next to Ellevet. That could be called stealing popularity by her standards. Definitely. "Thank you so much!" Lena squealed, and Lena was not a squealer.
"Well Lena, I suppose you must be off to lunch now. Here is Phelicia, you'll be needing her most in your Powers class."
"Right, should I go now?"
"Yes. I'll be seeing you Lena." Madam Arach held the door open and Lena headed to lunch.
