History passed, but Control was horrible enough without Misha having to Control anyone. But then again, she wasn’t there to do it, she was being treated by Rhia. As soon as she walked in, Professor Iri shoved piles of homework into Lena’s arms. “This,” she said dramatically to the assembled class, “is what you missed.”
Lena groaned internally as she walked to her desk, dropping her bag onto the floor and shoving the pile of work into her bag.
“Miss Kanstrofi, if you believe that you can fake sick and not have to do anything in my class… think again! Class has started!” Professor Iri scanned the rows of desks quickly, and then asked quietly, “Where are Ellevet and Misha?”
A couple hands went up, and she called on one.
“Sick. Rhia’s treating them...”
Someone called out, “Maybe there’s something going around. Lena was sick, too.”
“Shut up. You don’t speak until you’re spoken to in this class.” There was some mumbling, and Professor Iri asked, “What?”
“Nothing, Professor...”
“That’s what I thought. Continuing our discussion... Kanstrofi! Tell me, why must the Moon schools never be discovered by Humans?”
“Because if they found about the schools then they would know about Vampires?”
“Obviously. A more detailed explanation?”
“I... don’t know.” Lena muttered, looking down.
“Most two year olds would know that. You obviously don’t study much.” Professor Iri sneered.
Lena remained silent.
“Well, then, can you tell me the difference other than not having fully red eyes of a full Vampire and Half, at least?”
“Um... their parents?”
“Once again, a two year old would know that. I’m giving you one last chance to prove that you know one thing about Vampires in Control.” The class was silent, “Now, if you are found in a Human society and the VHP is not available, what do you do?”
“Umm... climb up the nearest tree?”
“Very funny. I expect a page on these three questions from everyone. The reason it would be bad if the Moon schools were found by Humans is because the word would get out to a Werewolves and then Humans and Werewolves would be able to find us. The difference between full and half Vampires besides having red eyes all the time is that you can have your Power taken away more easily if you’re a half Vampire. And lastly, if you were discovered and there was no way out, you would either use your Power if it could help you, or find the nearest Portal to the nearest Moon school.”
The bell rang, and everyone shoved things into their bags and ran out the door. The room was empty within a minute.
Before heading back to her dorm, Lena stopped by the snack bar. It was loaded with cookies, bottles of water, soda, and juice, halves of sandwiches, bags of chips and pretzels, and lots of cut up fruit. Lena got in line and scooped lots of fruit into a clear cup, filled another container with mini oreos, and grabbed a mango smoothie. Near the door of the Dining Hall, she shoved the food into her bag and took an ice cream bar for the walk back to her room.
