“Oh my god. GET UP!” Lena yelled, “You were the ones who told me that we would be up early because we had a lot of stuff to do. So, I’m up, and you aren’t. Get up!”
“Jesus, you sound like my mother…” Quoim grumbled, but got slowly out of bed.
“Meh...”
Calista stuck her head under her blankets, and Quoim went over, pulling them off as she stated dramatically, “This is our last day of freedom! The day before Full Moon comes... And before the teachers go all military school on our asses.”
“God, fine, Quoim!” Calista tried to pull the blanket back from her, but did not mange. “You’re so mean...”
“Well, I mean, if you really don’t want get out of bed, I can just go down the hall and tell Ellevet and everyone about your little booby trap plan!”
“No! I’ll get up!”
The three of them were sitting under a tree, laughing and eating candy they’d found in Calista’s bag when a thought struck Lena.
“Calista... In my book- well, um, well, it’s not all facts, but it has a lot of historically accurate stuff in it. I think that it could be really important, so maybe sometime you could like, go back in time or something?”
“Yeah... that’s actually a good idea, it could help us... in whatever we’re going do. I’m going to have to look into that. I think it could work, though.”
“Okay.”
Talk stopped for a while, and then it switched back to their new roommates.
“So... got the traps all rigged?”
“Guys, you do realize that your traps aren’t going work, right? All of these traps are going to be taken out of the room when they make it look better for our new roommates, you know...” Lena said.
“Oh, all that hard work for nothing?” Calista did a fake swoon dramatically.
“Yep.” Lena replied, giggling.
“Oh, the horror of it all!” Quoim joined Calista on the ground, “I’ll never live through this!”
“The horror. Oh yes. I’m sure you’ll never live through it.” Lena fought to keep a smile off her face.
“Yes... tis a sad curse.” Quoim gave a very loud sigh.
“Yes... to die before Full Moon visits us...”
“Oh... yes it’s so very sad- oh wait I think I’ll manage to survive, actually! No worries!”
“Pity. I was hoping that you would die before I had to share a dorm with you.” a cold voice exclaimed behind her.
“What do you want, Ellevet?” Quoim stood up, about two inches shorter than her.
“Oh, just dropping by to share my thoughts.” she smirked at them, “With the freaks. Watch your backs at night.” And she swept by, leaving them temporarily freezing and ice crystals hovering in the air behind her.
“That little bitch… I don’t give a damn to whatever she thinks, and walking around with those other idiots just, like following her, and the way...” Quoim continued insulting Ellevet, Misha, Naran, and Rella for quite some time.

“This is not the time! I am extremely busy, so go away! Right. Now.”
“But we need help!” Two Year Ones were practically begging a Consul.
“No! I’m really busy!”
“But- please, we really need you to help!”
“I don’t want to oversee your damn Save the Animals Club!” She turned around and yelled to a professor who taught the Year Sevens, “These two are going to go help you clean the windows, right now.”
Lena winced, obviously everyone was feeling the stress of Full Moon coming. She had two minutes to get back to class. She hurried along the passageway, clutching her bag tightly and avoiding Consuls and teachers. It was true what Talla had said- put a toe out of line, and… you were dead.
“Go clean the bathroom! When you’re done, come back and talk to me again.” Lena heard a teacher shrieking from inside a classroom, “Because… We do not talk about that.”
“All students please return to their dorms, this is Madam Arach, all students to their dorms! Cleaning for Full Moon is about to begin! Students with detention will be helping and then serving their detention after the cleaning is over. Thank you.” The announcement was over, and Vampires piled out of classrooms, looking either ecstatic or crestfallen.
Lena grinned, she’d just missed Control.
At that moment, Ellevet walked right in front of Lena to Garry, and, smirking, said loudly, “Sir, I’ve heard that in Full Moon, they use other punishments, like cages and stuff...” Lena took care to smash into her on the way to their corridor after Garry and Ellevet had a lengthy discussion.
“Okay, I mean, it’s truly, like, the end of the world!” Lena heard Quoim’s voice coming from inside, but when she pushed open the door, there was no one there but Calista.
“Oh, c’mon... It can’t be that bad!” Calista was saying.
“Yes it’s bad, this is absolute fucking worst!”
“Well... oh one sec, Lena just walked in.”
“Umm... how are you talking to her?”
“Oh, it’s really easy, actually...” Calista quickly explained it was a usual way of Vampire communication, you just needed an object and another object, say your names into them, and you could talk to the other Vampire like a phone.
“This is awful! Ellevet is helping oversee detention and Garry’s been incorporating Ellevet’s own ideas and and- oh shit. Got to go!” There was a muffled thump, and the room was silent.
“Hey.” Talla walked in, sat on Quoim’s bed, and opened the Times.
“Why are you reading the Times?” Lena asked, confused.
“A Vampire’s got to know what’s going on!” Talla muttered something under her breath, paper glowed golden, and the back of it turned from 'The New York Times' to ' The Vampire Times '.
“What just happened?” Lena was really confused now.
“You didn’t know? Okay. The Times is run by Vampires. It’s always been. You just have to say the password into the title, and it turns into our news. They cover both types of news, Human and Vampire.”
“Okay...”
Talla read her newspaper for a while, and then her mouth flew open into a perfect o, her eyes were practically bulging, and she whispered, “No!”
“What?” Calista asked, coming over.
“They were spotted!”
“Who?” Talla shoved the paper towards Calista. Her mouth fell open too.
“Tha- what are we going do?”
“Will someone please tell me what happened?”
“It’s Vanessa and Slade, Lena. They’ve been sighted. Less than a mile away.”
