“That took a while. I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to get exposed to more Vampire germs. Anyways, you’ve got classes again tomorrow and lots of work to catch up on.” Talla informed Lena.

“How fun. I also get to see Ellevet and everyone again! Yay.”

“True.” Calista said quietly, coming in, “Ellevet and her minions will be quite annoying. But only if they’re at classes tomorrow…”

Talla grew pale. “Calista- you- you didn’t... you didn’t go into my supplies, did you?”

“That’s for me to know, and for you to find out.” she said nonchalantly, while Quoin joined her side.

“Quoim... did she?” Talla was growing steadily paler and paler.

“Look, even if she did take something from your stores, we can always get you more. It doesn’t even matter.” Quoim tried to reassure her.

“Yes, uh, it kind of does, so did you do it or not?!” Talla was shaking, she looked furious. “Did. You. Do. It.”

“Okay, okay, fine, I did it!” Calista said impatiently.

Talla ran out of the room. In a few minutes she was back, panting. “You should really read things before you poison people. Dried snake fangs. Hear that? Dried snake fangs. Get what I’m saying? THEY’RE GOING TO BE THROWING UP BLOOD YOU IDIOT! Want to know what happens then? Then, Rhia gets shown the case because she’s school Healer, and she asks me about it because she sees what’s causing the blood being thrown up. But I don’t mention what you did and I take the blame. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS ABOUT MY CAREER AS A HEALER?” Talla stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind her so hard one of the posters fell off the wall.

“Well, sorry about that! You could have told me first, you know! GOD!” Calista snapped, then grabbed her bag and headed to the library to finish her homework angrily.

Lena got up from the bed, sighing, and put on her uniform. “November... it’s November... Quoim, do we have breaks when we can like... go home?” she asked as she thought about it.

“If you have proof that your parent or parents believe who you really are and won’t try and kill you or something... then yeah.”

“That’s reassuring.”

Quoim snorted. “And... no offense, but the way your mom is right now... she’s not going to try and kill you, but you’re probably going to be spending holidays here.”

“Shoot. I’ve been here for a... like... a week, it doesn’t matter hopefully I’ll see her over summer then...”

Calista came back a little bit later, saying, “I’ve got to go see Madam Arach. Hope it’s nothing too bad if Talla did rat me out.”

Quoim mumbled something that sounded suspiciously like, “If she did you deserved it. I don’t why I helped you. It’s all your fault if she doesn’t get to be a professional Healer.”

Calista checked herself in the mirror of her dresser, re-brushing her black hair and pinning it up. “See you all later.” Even though the door closed behind her, Quoim took it and slammed it. Hard. Phelicia took flight in alarm, and Slinth flew from her wrist, landing with a thud on the floor. Quoim’s mouth opened in shock, and she went to Slinth to pick the snake up, but she reared up angrily and slid under the bed.

A couple of hours went by in silence, with Quoim doing homework, and Lena feverishly studying books, trying to catch up. Then, the door slid open, and a Cheetah cub bounded in, while Calista followed. “Isn’t he cute? His name is Decia.”

“Cute, yeah, as long as he doesn’t tear Slinth up!” Quoim exploded.

“Wow, it’s someone’s time of the month again.” Calista muttered and turned her back to Quoim.

After about ten minutes full of tension, Lena chose to walk out of the room, while Phelicia flew overhead, leaving with a shower of disapproving squawks.

A moment later, the door flew open, and Calista ran to catch up, followed by Decia.

“Hey, Lena... You know, I think it’s pretty cool that they gave me Decia... because normal Cheetahs can run up to 125 miles per hour... that’s the highest speed ever recorded. But Decia’s species, they’re a special Vampire type, and they can run up to 225 miles an hour!”

Ugh! Calista, do you have any idea how this looks in Quoim’s eyes? I wish I could just do that thing where I make it unable for you to see me or something! Then I could get away for a while and figure this out! “Right... that’s great, Calista, but I really, I’ve got to go now. See you at dinner!” Lena got ready to speed off, but before she did, Calista burst into tears.

“Look, how was I supposed to know? I didn’t try and get her in trouble! Why is everyone so mad? I didn’t do it on purpose! I was just trying to give you a less hard time! I’ll go apologize- I’ll go get myself kicked out of Half Moon, fine!” she ran off, sobbing, in the direction of Talla’s dormitory, blue shirt flapping out behind her. A couple of doors popped open, and Lena quickly decided to get out of the gossip zone.

As she walked into the library, Lena thought about the position Calista was in. It looked like everyone was mad at her except Lena, and Lena had just acted like she as mad, too. And it was all her fault. Calista had gone into Talla’s private stores for her, so she would have less of a hard time during the next few days. And it was her fault, again, that Quoim and Talla were furious at Calista. Then again, it was her fault, and she’d sabotaged Talla’s dream. There was no telling what would happen. All my fault, all my fault, all my fault! Lena thought furiously. What... what am I going to do? What... am. I going to do?

“God, this fucking sucks.” Lena muttered furiously.

“Need anything that I help you with Miss Kanstrofi?” Said a quiet voice behind her. It was Madam Sivian, the librarian.

“Uh... no, I’m fine.”

“Then can you do me a favor?” Without waiting for an answer, she continued, “Good. Would you mind telling your friends Miss Sentar and Miss Centar that both of their books are overdue? Now, since you have no business here, I’m inclined to ask you to go out and tell your two friends about their overdue books.” Madam Sivian said quickly, striding away.

My two friends who hate each other right now. Yay. Why do I only have two friends? Issues, Lena… Well, three I guess. This is depressing.
