No one seemed to notice the cage as it went up through walls and ceilings until it was above the school.

At night, the whole school looked dark blue. A cold wind blew across from the lake up in the mountains. She could just make out the tips now, she didn’t know how late it was, but it was pitch black, and the stars were clearer than she had ever seen them before. When she concentrated on looking out far with her Seer Power, she could See every little ripple, even fishes under the water.

But Lena didn’t care. She just wanted to get down. Lena could have looked at her friends, but she was too far away, and that just made her want to get down even more. This is horrid. I hate this. Don’t look down, don’t look down…

Lena had spent hours looking up at the night sky until she had a cramp in her neck, but she still refused to look down. Finally, she let her head down. And saw something moving. On the roof. She wanted to See who or what it was, but she was too drained to work her Power. The thing leapt up to a higher pint of the roof- tail? Yes, a tail, high in the air and... headed straight for her. It was a dark color, so it was hard to make out exactly what it was. It was just… a dark splotch in the night. Something jumped onto her lap- a cat, slipping through the bars of the cage easily.

But it wasn’t  just any cat. Talla’s cat. Maru. Lena reached into her pocket and pulled out a spare piece of paper and a broken pen she had shoved into her pocket earlier. Her hands were soon covered with ink, but she managed to write something, hopefully not too messy to read.

“Go and take this to Talla... please, Maru!” She pleaded to the cat as she stuck it to his collar. He bounded away, though to Talla or not, Lena had no way of knowing, unless she could gain some strength to use her Power.

Soon, although Lena wasn’t quite sure how it happened, she fell asleep and into a vision.

Lena walked into Vanessa and Slade’s headquarters, looking for the room she had seen in her first vision. She found it, and then proceeded down to the dungeons. Then to the dungeon she had seen the parents get thrown into. She heard screams. Lena’s stomach tightened. The children’s screams. She peeked through a tiny hole in the wall. The two cages were still hanging from the ceiling. Why are Vampires so obsessed wit hcages? A pale woman, trembling, sat in one of them, eyes looking out the window vacantly. A man, the same one from the other vision, was in the other. He looked as weak as the woman, if not weaker. They were both dying of hunger, fear, and overwhelming sadness. How long had it been since the last vision? Just a day, but- no, two days... it was morning now. It was the cries that were weakening them so much in so little time.

Lena heard footsteps, and whirled around. They can’t see you, remember, they can’t see you. She reminded herself again and again.

“A Life-Support, I warn you! Do you want people to think you’re weak?” Vanessa was talking fast and angrily, not caring how loud she was being. “Slade, really!”

“Vanessa, if we do not we will loose four new ones to our ranks. We could do with some new recruits.”

“So do it the old way! Just kidnap someone!” Vanessa shrieked.

“Vanessa. Please, calm down. The children- think of the children! They’ll be good spies if we train them right. What are the schools doing? How would weknow? We can put an Age Disguise up, and they could go right on in. And the parents will do what we want in fear for the children, as the children will do what we want in fear of us. If we collect children from both sides- we will never not know what is happening! Let’s do it, sister.” Slade explained.

“Very well. But we’ll just try on these- if it works by the end of the year, we’ll add more. If not, then we’ll kill them.” Vanessa said grudgingly.

“Of course, sister.” he answered.

Lena shivered. Kill. Kill. Kill. Is that all they think about?

Slade put his hand up to the door and marched in. Vanessa followed him, slowly. Lena squinted through the crack again.

The man lifted his head and said something quietly. The woman just turned away from them. “We have agreed on something.” Vanessa snorted quietly, but didn’t object. She seemed to think that his idea could actually work. “What we have agreed on is to put a Life-Support around you and the children. So that means you will still have to endure this punishment, but you will live through it. When the ten days are over, you will become full members, along with your miserable children. They will get Age Disguises, and we will send them into one of each of the Vampire schools. If they let it slip why they are there, they will die, as will you and anyone who knows. If we are not satisfied with you, we will bring the children, let them watch you die, and they will continue with their job. If we have not already killed them.”

The woman turned around and weakly tossed her hair. “I’d rather die.”

“Not everyone gets what they want, girl.” Vanessa slapped her so hard she started to bleed. Lena gasped, drawing in a quick breath.

“I’m not a girl. I’m Ginia. And I’m not your fucking puppet you freak!” Ginia screamed fiercely.

“Too late. You’ll be a nice edition.” Vanessa smiled at her, and they walked out.

Lena stuck as close to the wall as she could, even though she knew they couldn’t see her. Then she looked at the cages again. They were swaying, just like the floor under her. Ginia wiped some blood away, and that was the last thing Lena saw.
