she is three years younger than me, but I don't care

i sit in the chair beside maya's hospital bed just sitting there, holding her small pale hand.

sure it's been weeks and maya is still in the hospital, but that is how reality is treating her.

the doctors have taken my tests and they say she is ready to leave the hospital today, once they get her medication.

i remember what riley told me, and it's haunting me.

'you're slowly starting to like maya'
'don't leave maya'

im scared.

scared of falling in love with this blonde beauty and leaving her in the end because of age difference.

i stare at her peaceful resting face, how her mother brushed her blonde hair to frame her face.

how light her breaths sound in this quite room.

the way her friendship ring rests on her finger.

the gold nail polish riley left on her nails.

beautiful.

just then, her eyelids fluttered open, showing her blueish green eyes.

"hey." she smiled squeezing my hand gently.

"hi."

"when am i allowed to leave again?"

"um, your mom said later today. she brought you clothes to change into." i say pointing beside me.

she smiled, "you do know you're missing a lot of school being here with me."

i laugh, "maya, of course I'd miss school for you, i mean who likes school?"

"riley loves school, she loves everything." she giggles at that.

"hey, im going to the washroom for a bit."

she didn't say anything, just smiled.

when i came back to her room she was dressed in the clothes her mom gave her.

her hair was tied up too, she looked flawless.

"i took a picture with your phone, you can delete it if you want."

i smiled, "it's okay, I'll keep it even if you look ugly."

maya punched my arm lightly.

"im kidding."
