The one who spoke strode towards Ben and I while the other seven still had their arrows pointing at us. Ned, Gina, Calem and Coco where awake now and where frozen on the spot.
Coco was barking and snarling at our new visitors, the look in her eyes deadly.
Ned put his finger on his lips and Coco quietened down. Coco was really impressive. It was great that she listened to her owners. We weren't that far away from the town and if she kept barking, she could have attracted zombies.
"Down to business." This came from the man who was now in front of us. "Your going to do as I say or the arrows start flying. Clear?" We all nodded and the man smiled.
"My name is Adam and this is my group." He gestured to the archers. "We won't hurt you as long as you guys don't have any intentions of hurting us. Clear?" We all nodded again and Adam continued.
"These are our woods and we don't want any bandits trying to take what we've worked so hard for. The real question is, are you bandits?" Ned took a step forward and held his hand out to Adam.
"My name's Ned and that's Gina, Calem, Coco, Ben and Susan." He pointed to each of us in turn before continuing. "We're from a cabin about two hours from here and we mean no harm. We came into your forest to check out those nifty cameras you have. We thought that it was a sign of more survivors. Guess we were right."
Adam was still for a moment, then he let out a laugh. "I like you Ned, you seem like a decent guy." Then he took Ned's hand and gave it a firm shake. After that he took turns shaking all of our hands, pausing at Calem to give him a pat on the back, he signaled his group to put their bows down. I heaved a sigh of relief. It was good that weapons weren't being pointed at us any more.
"Alrighty." Adam said kindly. "You guys are welcome to come and stay at our camp. Your humans and we need as much of those as we can these days. Also, not trying to brag but we have a much better camp then you guys. Follow me." The others in Adam's group helped us carry our things and we all followed Adam.
"Do you really think they trust us?" Ben was walking beside me with his arm around my waist. "I don't know." I responded quietly. "If I were in their position I would. I'd like to make friends with as many humans as I could. Wouldn't you?"
Ben nodded and we kept walking. Soon we reached a patch of bushes and Adam stopped, before turning around to talk to all of us. "We're here." He said. Then he stepped aside to let my group take in the scenery.
It was a camp. A camp like no other.
