My wake-up call is cold water splashing on my face. I gasp and cough as water shoots down my throat. I shake my head to clear my vision. I look up to see why I couldn't use my hands and find they are chained above me with cold shackles. I stand on my tip toes to keep from hanging by my wrists. The metal links wrap around the beams streaking across the ceiling and I deem I'm in the attic. I glance over to my side and see the others, standing in the same position.
I want to blurt out questions to try and figure out what the heck happened, but hold back at the sight of our intruder. She sits on the floor facing us. A long, silver blade rested on her lap and she was sharpening it with a stone. I shudder. The sword looks sharp enough already. No need to make it more so. Intent
I turn my attention to the intruder. Her hair is jet black and falls down to the floor and then some. Had she been standing I was sure it would come down to her knees. Pale skin contrasted the dark black color of her armor, undercoated with red leather. It hugs her well-built and well-shaped body in a complex manner. The longer I look the more I realize that the neat placement of the metal is so she could move without the armor holding her back. The shadows looming over her pale skin hid her face. She's intent on her sword and sliding the metal against metal.
For a while, that's the only sound. She would lift her sword and study it, seeming like she were about to speak, but always stayed silent. I swallow, the air growing more tense with every silent second that passed.
I always pondered on what it would be like down here in Midgard." The sudden sound of her voice make me flinch. It's rich and powerful, holding a strange but gorgeous accent that sounded like nothing I had ever heard before. Goosebumps spread over my skin. "I did not think it would be so... dull."
"Kind of like your sword?"
I shut my eyes and grit my teeth. Tucker, you idiot.
She stands, seeming too calm. I expect her to slit his throat immediately, but she doesn't.. Instead, she swings her sword, as if giving it a few test swings to see if it still works.
"It," she pauses. The glimmering metal points ahead, moving across each of us as if it were deciding which one it wanted to kill. A sick feeling washes churns in my stomach as it points at me. "It is a true pity..." Her voice trails off
"What's a pity?" Tucker asks.
I give him a look, trying to get him to shut up.
"That I am going to have to cut out the tongue of such a silver tongued mortal with my dull sword," She still doesn't bother looking up and she adds with a hint of amusement in her tone, "I would not know whether or not it would be appropriate to say "silver tongued". That is a title very few deserve and you are not included in that group."
"Uhh," Tucker's jaw goes slack. She pauses, waiting for him to come up with something else to say. "Well, you are a big... annoying person."
If my hands weren't tied above me I would have face-palmed.
"What are you doing here?" Cody asks and I hope her attention draws away from cutting Tucker's tongue out. "What do you want with us?"
Her head tilts towards his voice. "I am on a journey," she began to pace in front of us. "A journey to destroy all heroes. There were no specific instructions other than they all die. I decided the best course of action was to start with the least heroic and make my way up to the most heroic. That way when the mightiest heroes of this land try to stop me, they will have no one to come and rescue them. No backup. No support. They will be alone. And what would a might hero such as they want to have anything to do with underlings, such as yourself? No one will come to your rescue."
