I tell myself that it all was a crazy hallucination, but the beeps of the heart monitor prove me wrong. I open my heavy eyelids, the hospital room bright from the sunshine pouring inside. Cody sleeps in the uncomfortable hospital chairs, leaning his head against the wall. Tucker paces in front of me and crumples a piece of paper in his hand, grumbling about Rick under his breath. Abby sits close by, scrolling through her phone while Cameron asleep against her shoulder.
I shut my eyes and try to recall what happened over the last few hours. Who was the man that rescued me and why did he bring me to a hospital in Mexico? Where is Rick? I shudder. If I never see him again, it'll be too soon.
I swim in and out of sleep, too exhausted to talk to anybody. Cramps in my stomach wake me from my feverish sleep and I find most everybody is gone. Panic washes over me and the heart monitor speeds with my racing heart.
"Christina?" Cody's voice makes me relax. I slump back in the bed, my stomach twisting. He scoots his chair over to me, his faced laced with concern. "How are you feeling?"
"Like crud." I breathe shallowly to keep my stomach from hurting.
He gives a sympathetic smile. "I'm sorry. The doctor said you would feel like that for a while. You lost a lot of blood."
"Joy," I swallow, my throat as dry as a cotton ball. "Where are the others?"
"They went to get lunch," Cody shifts in his chair, studying me. "Christina, how did you get here? You weren't responding to Abby and when we came to check you, nothing was there except a picture. Some guy called us and said you were here."
I shake my head. "I don't know... After Rick shot me, this guy came and I wake up here."
"What was the picture?"
