I don't like the plan.
Well, not until things went downhill.
I run down an alley trying to escape the police officers chasing me. My legs are sore and my heart races. I don't know where the others are. I just hope they had time to get away. I dash around the curb, disappearing in the crowd of people heading to work. But seeing the officers chasing me, they moved away in a panic.
I scowl and glance back at the men chasing me. They shout for me to stop, but I don't, even though I feel like it. I'm exhausted from waking up so early and being up late watching movies, not to mention our intruder.
I jump to the side to avoid a lamp post, stumbling over my feet. I nearly hit the ground, but catch myself. I come to an abrupt halt as more police officers come around the corner, cutting me off. I turn to go the other way, but the others have caught up and all have their guns trained on me. I keep running in circles to try and find a way out, but I'm trapped. Should I shoot these guys down? I might can scare them away. But Cody said he would come after me if I got caught...
Sighing, I hold my hands in the air. If he doesn't get me out soon, I'm going to kill him. They approach me slowly. One got out the special "handcuffs" and put them on my hands, covering them completely to keep me from summoning my fire. I'm lead to a big van with the big words Mutant Containment Act, a government organization that "handled" rogue mutants.
They shove me in the seat. The door slams shut, leaving the inside nearly pitch black, and the van begins to move. I peer through the dim light and see other mutants in seats, all looking nervous. I lower my head to avoid eye contact them. Okay, Cody, don't let me down here. The guards were silent as we rode, holding their guns as a warning.
The van slows as we pull into the facility. The room floods with light when the doors open and a hoard of guards greet us. A few come in and begin unloading us. I flinch when two grab my shoulder, but follow as they lead me out. We walk past several cells filled with a wide variety of mutants.
They shove me in an empty one and a blue light covers doorway. I sigh and sit on the floor. I've seen reports from the MCA that the light burns when you touch it and is impossible to get by. Usually I'd test it to see if it works, but I saw others prisoners trying and failing.
I pull my knees to my chest, hiding my face. Cody, hurry up... I don't want to be here. I peek up and watch as Mirror Man is led away. I remember the MCA arrest him, but then spot us as we were leaving. Things went a little crazy...
"And that's how I got here," I mumble to myself. "Cody hurry up..."
I hear a cackle and a voice says, "New material. How exciting."
I look to the cell across from mine. It's hard to see past the light, but I can make out a faint figure of a man leaning against the wall, a smirk plastered on his lips. "What do you mean by that?" I ask.
He looks over at me. "You'll see," He sits up and hits his head back against the wall. At first I thought he might be crazy, but I saw a headband around his forehead with blinking lights. Probably holding back whatever his powers are. "How did someone as young as you are ever end up in a place like this?"
I shake my head. "Long story."
"I don't mind you telling," He shrugs with casualness to his voice. "After all, we're going to be here a while."
