There was still six classes left and right now Saera walked out of her last class for the day. She had been unsuccessful in approaching Derek the entire time. They had bumped into each other during two classes which they shared and by the lockers but the result was similar to that what happened during lunch break. Complete avoidance

Something seemed off in him. Even if someone bumped right into him, he would just walk past them as if nothing ever happened. He was cold towards the other passers. Saera remembered what her friends had told her when she had first joined Mectro High. The cool mysterious Derek Ryder, always to himself not talking to a single soul in school and acting as if no one existed around him but himself. She was confused by what they said. Right now she understood what they had been trying to say.

It was like there was a protective barrier around him. Not letting anyone close to him and keeping himself protected.

Or is he actually trying to keep someone else protected by moving himself to isolation? The only moment she noticed that he let down his guard was around his group of friends. Only around them does he act like a normal guy and only to them does he talk.

Saera had learnt from Kevin that the two strangers who had appeared unexpectedly the previous week were actually Derek's brother and Sister Steven and Kathedra. That would definitely explain the unique beauty they possessed. But, why did he order me to stay away from them?

"If they really were his siblings, then why did he look as if they were Aliens fallen from the moon?" Mia asked her friends. They were walking out of the school building. School was over and Saera was no where in learning the truth. none of them had an answer to Mia's question. each one of them were confused as well.

Saera looked ahead and saw Derek and his group of friends. It was rare to see him walking along with them. He usually vanishes as soon as school's last bell rings. She was more than determined to talk to him no matter what. I refuse to go home without any answers.

Saera knew what she was doing was stupid and meaningless. not to mention embarrassing  too. It was unlike her, but she had no choice. She marched towards the boys group. Saera could very well hear her friends call out her name but she could care less. Her top priority now was to talk to Derek.

She grabbed hold of Derek's hand. it was as cold as snow. She started dragging back to school walking the opposite direction to her friends and his. They had no idea what to do. She was well aware that she was getting weird stares from everyone around the school parking lot. She half expected him to jerk back his hand, yell at her for being so ignorant and march off. But he didn't.

Derek had clearly not expected this. He had no idea what exactly was going on. he was still in shock and confusion as Saera continued to pulling him. The school's building loomed ahead of them clearly visible in sight.

Once they were safely locked inside an empty classroom, Saera let go of his hand, sank on a chair and groaned.

"What was I even thinking?" She covered her face in her palms. Never in her life had she ever done something so nerve wrecking and embarrassing. She had just dragged the School's hottest most attention seeking guy around the school parking area where the whole lot of students could have seen! Have I gone mad??!

"I'd like to know what is going on as well?" A voice cut through her thoughts. She looked to her left and found Derek staring back at her. Only then was she completely aware that it was only him and herself in the gloomy, empty classroom or perhaps the only two remaining in the entire school. Saera suddenly felt very self conscious.

Either one spoke out and remained in silence staring back at each other. Sighing Derek cut the eye contact as he looked the other way. During that brief eye contact Saera had felt that strange sensation within her. She tried her best to seem unfazed and keep her emotions under control and unnoticed.

Derek had given his all to stay away from her. Only by doing so he knew that Steven and Kathedra would leave her alone. But every moment he had to stay away from her had been some kind of torture to him. He didn't know what was wrong with him. Derek had did his best to persuade his family to take there eyes off of Saera for the time. In return he had promised to never have anything to do with her and make sure she never find out his dark secret.

After being away from the young vampire Slayer for a week he had thought that he was now capable of staying away from her completely. Derek felt like he could keep his promise to his Mom. Luck was not on his side. The very moment he had seen her by the hallway during lunch break his confidence came crumbling down. Her gaze upon him, being close to her even her very existence had all influenced Derek a lot. He was losing control of himself. The protective barrier he had been having for a century now since the time he was turned to a creature of the night was being broken and brought down. He knew he couldn't stay away from her!

Right now being in an empty classroom with just her was bringing his emotions to the surface. His thirst for blood was at its peak. Just at the thought of blood he felt his fangs tingle ready to spring out any time. I have to get out of here quick!

"If there's nothing you want from, I'll be leaving first". His voice sounded hoarse. Derek made his way to the door when suddenly he was stopped by Saera's hand in front of him blocking his path.

Derek felt afraid to look at her directly. just a glance of her could bring out his fangs.

"Are you avoiding me? Why? What have I done to offend you?" Still not a single reply from him. Saera's fear was replaced with anger.

"You suddenly dissapear for a week to god knows where, then you appear out of thin air with your damn attitude and behavior completely messed up! did you think for a second how I felt when you never showed up to school? And now you've got the nerve to ignore me." Saera couldn't stop yelling at him. she was so frustrated. But more importantly she was hurt for reasons unknown by the way he was acting towards her.

Derek couldn't hold back anymore. He looked down at her. For the first time being this close to her he realized how small she was compared to him. Saera's chest tightened. She went on gazing at Derek's gorgeous face. When she looked at him straight in the eye she couldn't look away. How strange. such beautiful golden eyes

"Why... why are you trying so hard to push yourself into my life when its clear I'm trying to force you out?" he sounded desperate. Derek was able to finally speak in his own accent, which made it even more difficult for Saera to concentrate as she was entranced by his voice but what he had said was like a blow on the head to her. She wasn't expecting him to say that. He's trying to push me away?

"Why? Why are you doing that Derek? Its obvious you don't want to." Even if it had only been for a second Saera had been able to see the pain in his eyes when he had said that he wanted her out of his life.

"If that's what you really want then you would have been able to successfully throw me away from your life and walk away. Why are you forcing yourself so much? What is this secret of your's that you keep trying to protect from anyone prying into it?" Saera slumped forward her head gently touching Derek's hard chest. She was fed up with all this secrecy.

Saera could hear the slow rhythm of his heartbeat. At some moments she would imagine no heartbeat was heard. like the person in front of her was just a heartless human walking on the depths of earth. Sighing to herself she looked up at him. She was totally aware of their closeness now. it didn't bother her much. all she could think of was what she was going to say next.

"Who are you Derek Ryder?"
