"Who are you Derek Ryder?" She had finally been able to ask the one thing she had wanted to ask him all along. But once the words were out of her lips she regretted it. She wanted to shut her ears from hearing his answer to her question. How badly she wanted to take back what she had said.

Saera felt a gentle touch on her shoulder as Derek pushed her away from him keeping her at arms distance. A smile was plastered on his lips but his eyes were emotionless. He looked as if he had been expecting this regretful question all along.

"You wouldn't be asking me this if you didn't know the answer to this yourself by now Saera Forbes." She liked the way Derek said her name. It made her feel excited yet at that very moment she was also filled with worry.

"I want You  to give me an answer Derek. An answer which will make me relieved. something which will not leave me with regret and confusion." Derek let go of his hands which was holding her shoulders. She had worn a tank top with a low neck line which left her fair shoulders bare and neck well exposed.

"Then I am not the suitable person to give you an answer to your question nor will you ever find anyone who would be able to give you the answer you seek." She could only keep staring at him. He gave her a genuine smile. Not a forced one. One of his rare smiles.

I've tried my best but I guess to no use. Our fate has already been intervened. There's no use holding back and continuing to keep her in the dark. She'll eventually find out. Derek thought miserably. He had finally started accepting his life which was given to him. After a century and a half of mental suffering, he had come in terms of who he was now. Derek thought gratefully that he was given the life which was forcefully grabbed away from him. Having friends, continuous fights which made no sense, a best friend who would always be there for him no matter what the circumstance and also Maybe a special someone in his heart. Derek's gaze lingered on Saera for some time. Never did he imagine that everything would be taken away from him so soon just as how it had been taken away in the past. He clasped and unclasped his fists in frustration. Why is it that always miserable things keep coming my way? How much pain can this unbeating heart of mine take? I guess I never was meant to have a happy ending after all.

Derek wanted to kick himself for opening up to his friends. If he had remained the untouchable and mysterious Derek Rider it would have been much easier. It was all because Saera Forbes came into his life that he had changed. The few days he had spent together with his friends acting like a normal high schooler, were quite fun even if most of the time it was annoying and he felt out of place. Even having a clingy Kevin had felt soothing. For the first time in a very long time Derek had felt less lonely. Having to push them away now was too hurtful. He knew once he manages to get away from them they would continue there life like how it was before he entered their little world. In worst circumstance they might even forget him completely. Sigh...

Derek couldn't tear his eyes away from the girl standing in front of him. Since the moment they met by accident he knew she was different. Special in ways. How badly he had wanted to get to know the new girl, try to be her friend, spend time together. But once he learnt the truth of who she really was all his dreams of befriending Saera Forbes came crumbling down. He knew he couldn't stay close to her any longer, not after he realized the dangers She and her family could cause towards Him and his Kind. Even before his mom had confronted him about Saera he knew he'll have to block her out of his life. But standing this close to the girl he was interested in for some reason unknown to him he wanted to grasp hold of the little hope he had that they could still be Friends, yet he knew there was no way that was possible. It was finally time Saera realized with the type of person she was dealing with.

"I'm sure your aware when people say, When a guy is born his life partner is born and decided along with him waiting somewhere in the universe to be united by fate. I guess you could say the same for the two of us. When I was turned, you were born in some warm welcomed place awaiting your chance to take away my life in future when we crossed paths. Of course a century later!" He said giving off a light laughter. There was no sarcasm nor emotion in it. He had finally said it. There was no reason for him to act cool any more.

In the meantime Saera was in shock. Well shock would be an understatement! She was completely panicking. She had been too late to shut her ears from hearing what Derek had to say to her. He had finally given her the answer to her question. But why did she feel like the entire world had turned against her? No! This was not the answer I wanted Derek. She just wanted to crawl into a corner and cry to herself. She wished the ground to cough up a huge hole and drag her inside erasing her existence!

Saera shut her eyes tight trying to force everything to out. She realized she never wanted to learn the truth. Saera started to tremble. Reality hit her hard like a gush of cold wind making her lose balance.

She looked up at the gorgeous face of Derek Ryder. She never got tired of gazing at him. Saera studied each and every feature in his face carefully. Finally she noticed it.

His beautiful golden eyes which she had grown to love was changing to a bloody crimson red. Derek's soft lips parted slightly not to show a smile but to reveal what was hidden within. Saera stared in utmost dismay as she saw two long sharp crystal white fangs creep out of its sheaths. It gleamed in the afternoon sunlight which poured in through a window in the empty class.

Saera's breath came out in ragged gasps. It felt like her entire supply of oxygen had been forcefully snatched away from her. Derek's breathtaking face had now turned to that of a killer. A monster! He had a starving look in those blood thirsty eyes of his. Saera took a step back. She was trembling in fear. She had no where to run. She knew with a sudden shrinking of her heart that he was one of the Undead!

"Vampire..!" The words escaped her lips before she could stop herself. Saera didn't want to believe any of this. She just wanted to consider all this a bad dream.

Derek's face might have changed from better to worse but his smile still had the same sadness drenched in it. The expression Saera had when she had seen him change had crushed him entirely. In her unique clever emerald green eyes he could see himself as a frightening monster! a killing machine of innocent lives. Saera was trembling uncontrollably and Derek wasn't sure if it was due to fear or the cold atmosphere surrounding them. All he wanted to do right now was pull her close to his body, hug her tight and whisper to her that everything was going to be alright. But he couldn't trust himself. he was too afraid that he might lose control of himself and hurt the very girl he was trying so hard to keep safe.

Saera's head started to throb painfully. The room was starting to blur. Everything around her seemed to have blacked out and the figure right in front of her was the only thing visible in her vision. The weird sensation was back. She could no longer look at Derek as the guy she was interested in but could only visualize him as a demon through who's lifeless heart she had to drive a wooden stake at any cost. KILL HIM! KILL HIM! was all she could make out.

No, no no.. please stop! not now. Vampire or not I could never hurt Derek! Saera was desperately trying to shut out her Slayer intuitions. Derek showing his true self and being amongst a real life vampire must have awakened her abilities. All she felt like doing now was to put an end to the creature of the night who was standing boldly in front of her, A Vampire Slayer!
