The front door was thrown open with such a force that it almost came off its hinges. Derek stormed into the house and looked for Silvia. He found her seated at the pantry in the kitchen having her morning tea and reading the newspaper, and besides her he saw that Kathedra and Steven were present as well.
"Hey.... been awhile hasn't it? how've you been?" Steven asked him as he lazily steared his own mug of green tea. Kathedra just kept silent. His Mom looked up from her paper. "What are you doing back home Derek? Aren't you supposed to be in school? Did something happen again?". within the blink of an eye he was where she was seated and dashed his hand onto the pantry table making it wobble. She didn't look surprised but curious as to his outburst. The other two kept looking at him intently as well.
"Why didn't you tell me that there were Vampire slayers in this town?" gritting his teeth he asked her. She had always kept these kinds of things a secret from him. He was fed up of it now.
"well... clearly I didn't want to worry you Sweetheart. Finally your starting to get used to your life in school, I didn't want to spoil it for you by saying these stuff. How did you come to know of it?" she had turned back to reading the paper.
"How I had come to know of it is unnecessary. why do you keep hiding these kind of information from me Silvia? Unless you want me dead..." As soon as he had said this She looked up at him shocked and flustered. she didn't expect him to have said this. there was hurt in her eyes. At once he was thrown to the wall and neck squeezed by Steven.
"watch your tongue Derek. who do you think your talking to? don't forget Silvia was the one who had saved your sorry ass decades ago. your lucky she considers you as her own son. You have no right to talk to her that way..." his grip tightened around Derek's neck and damn he looked pissed. His fangs had broke out and were visible.
"That's enough Steven. let go of him." one second she was by the table and the next she was standing besides them patting Steven's shoulder. he let go of his foster brother and went back to the table gulping down his tea. Silvia turned back to look at Derek.
"You wanted to know why I don't say you when ever there's a slayer in town? well like I said I don't want to see you worried nor always staying alert and on the look out as if every second your life was in danger. I always made sure there was someone watching over you to make sure you were safe." she smiled gently at him gracing his cheek with the back of her hand. "If I wanted you dead I wouldn't have saved you back then Derek. we might be immortals but even we have death enlisted on us. we have to be careful but I hate to see you always looking cautious. thats why I always hide these things from you and have Kathedra and Steven look in and out of town to see if any vampire slayers are in sight." only now did he know that his foster siblings weren't at home because they felt it boring but they were always on duty given to them by their Mom.
Finally his sister spoke up looking directly at him. "Just get back to school and have fun with your new friends as i've heard from Mom and let us do the vampire slayer hunting and stuff. you don't have to get involved!"
Derek took his Mom's hand in his and then let it slip. He turned around to walk out of the house. "well consider it officially over. I'm not going to school anymore unless I want myself killed" The three of them turned to look at him confused. sighing he turned to face them.
"There's a vampire slayer at school.... Though she's new to the whole thing..."
What?" they all cried out in unison. neither one of them had expected this kind of a change of event. Kathedra, the only one seated now stood up as well.
"Yah... she's new to town and transfered to our school some weeks ago. She's my classmate. she just turned 16 two days ago and was invited into her family's secret, though she considers it as something crazy. Saera Forbes.... I got to know about it today when I confronted her and asked why she gives me weird stares." His Mom leaned back to the table thinking for a while
"Hmm.... Forbes isn't it? they've got a line of successful and powerful slayers throughout centuries. There bloodline is considered special. I heard that they are able to sense a vampire if amongst them rather than hunting blindly for people who sink their fangs into other humans."
"well that would explain it. She said she had felt a strange feeling within her this morning when You and I had entered school grounds and she said she gets it when ever I'm around. she's still unsure what it is though. unaware of it herself she starts looking at us with a different expression than usual. So, you still want me to head over to school and have fun and be chummy with my so-called friends?" He had his arms crossed and stared at them. Silvia quickly shook her head.
"Don't. stay at home for a while till I can figure out what to do. I'll make a call to all the others throughout town. we should discuss these kind of matters. If theres a vampire slayer student, the members of the Forbes family must be aware that we live among them in this town. we have to think carefully before just coming to a conclusion blindly."
Steven started walking towards the living room yawning out of boredom. "she's still a new cub right? just leave her to me and I'll deal with her. we need not worry over this for nothing."
Derek felt his chest tighten. Anger built within him. He was furious and out of control for reason even he was unsure of. He had let out the animal he was from within. In a mere millisecond he had pushed Steven to one of the couch closeby and stood in front of him, fangs out of its sheaths and his Golden lens bright red now,he growled at his foster brother. Kathedra and Silvia was beyond shocked and Steven was completely out of it. He didn't know his little foster brother had such strength in him. Derek had always been considered the fastest, not the strongest even though he was 10 times more stronger than other human guys.More shocking to them than his strength was his uncontrollable temper which they had never seen before. He himself was not able to figure out why he was behaving this way.
"Lay a finger on her, and that'll be the end of you!"
saying so he sped back to school leaving the front door broken and them flustered and taken back.
