Saera was barely able to keep herself away from her Grandmother and Mom. She was constantly being questioned by them and by aunts and cousins she had never known before. It was always the same damn question, Who's the vampire who awakened your Vampire slayer skills? she was tired with everything. All she wanted to do now was to catch the first plane and fly back to her Dad. Unfortunately, luck was not on her side this time. He had gone on a business trip to some place she had no idea of. To make things worse, school was no fun either. Her friends kept going on and on about the absentism of school idol Derek Ryder.
For once she just wanted to scream at them all to shut up. But she knew she couldn't.
A month and a half had passed and Derek suddenly decided to make an appearance. He started such a commotion in school. Saera till wondered how he could handle all this and remain oblivious and untroubled to all the happenings around him.
Seeing him after a long time had an impact on Saera as always. She couldn't keep herself from not staring at him. Couple of times their eyes crossed each other, but then they turned away quickly.
More than fear of seeing him again, Saera was filled with confusion of how to face him. Every time she came face to face with him, she couldn't look at him straight in the face. She always pictured him to be the vampire he was within. By now she had come to accept that Derek was indeed a blood sucker, even if it was so damn freaking hard. She still wanted to think of him as just a regular school boy but she knew she would just fool herself.
Every time she turned her face away, it pained Derek. He was well aware that Saera was ignoring him. He was perfectly clear that she would never be the same with him again.
She's terrified of me. Derek thought to himself miserably, glancing at her across the classroom during Physics class. He couldn't explain what was wrong with him. He has never paid much attention to any guy or girl before, yet this one girl troubled his mind a lot.
"Dude, give it a rest. Your gonna dig a hole at the back of her poor head." Kevin sighed shaking his friend by the shoulder.
"Sorry. I wasn't staring." Derek turned his attention back to the front of his class trying to concentrate on the lecture.
Kevin smirked. "Yah right, now that's an understatement. you were staring at her as if she was your lunch break snack." Derek remained silent.
"Damn, what's going on between you and Forbes anyway?" kevin settled back on his seat and stared at Derek waiting for an answer.
"Nothing." And that was all the answer he got.
"oh c'mon, I know there's something going on. You can't lie to me." Kevin said running his hand through his hair. Derek gazed at his friend intently and for a second Kevin felt like a cornered animal. What's with this guy's gaze?
"I said nothing." Derek added more firmly. Kevin held his hand in front in surrender. Derek sighed. He was exhausted. Home, the only place he had found peace in the past decades was now a living hell with Steven, Kathedra and other vampires around. They were on the lookout the entire time. Even Derek was always on his feet. He was no kid anymore. He knew a war was about to break out between the centuries old rivals. An unsettlement had broken out between the human vampire slayers and his Race.
The peace treaty between them was the only thing holding them apart from tearing each other's throat. But not for long. The new generation of slayers didn't give a damn about the treaty.
And if the Forbes come to know of what had happened to one of their own, then that would be the end to us vampires. Derek was deep in thought as he stared at the little Forbes in front of him obediently taking down notes. Her shoulders lifted and dropped to the rhythm of her slow breathing.
