I was suddenly filled with such hatred that I charged at him without thinking.  Mr Tall just stood there smiling and he clicked his fingers. My weapons flew out of my hands and I couldn’t move. I was still so angry I could feel my whole body shaking and I aimed my anger at The King instead. It was only me and him now. I could feel the bonds of Mr Tall’s magic breaking under my rage and I turned to The King who actually looked scared. That gave me pleasure and I smiled evilly at him. Everybody in the room had frozen, which made me angrier for some reason, which I didn’t think was possible and I felt like I would explode with rage.  I started to vibrate and my vision turned red. I tried to direct all my rage and anger onto The King and it worked. He stiffened and started floating in the air. It looked like he was suffocating, and was gasping for breath. I felt so powerful I pushed harder. Eventually The King was no more and he went limp and dropped to the ground. I turned and someone spoke. I snarled, a noise that scared me to death when I realised it’d come from me. My breathing was slowing down and Lucy looked like she was about to pass out again. She approached me warily, like she was afraid I would lash out at her.

“Are you ok, Alex?” she asked warily. I’d calmed down and was on the verge of tears. I remembered my anger and was ashamed. I looked at the life less form of The King and realised that I’d killed him! I was a murderer!

I slid to the floor with my head in my hands. What have I done?! Lucy still looked wary and I realised that Mr Tall was still there, but he had a glassy look in his eyes.

“What’s wrong with Mr Tall?” I asked looking up. I stood up and went to him. Suddenly his eyes snapped closed then they opened slowly and started speaking, which made me jump about 6 feet in the air. His voice had changed though; it was a very deep scary voice. I realised I recognised it! It was the same voice that spoke the riddle in math class! I froze in my spot listening to the prophecy coming out of his mouth.

“You have succeeded in your first part of the quest but now you face many dangers ahead of you in the nest! You have chosen your course and must travel due west!”

And with that Mr Tall disappeared.

“What was that?” Lucy exclaimed.

“I think it was our clue,” I replied anxiously.

“Yeah. A riddle?  What did he mean by ‘Now you face many dangers ahead of you in the nest’?”

“I have no idea. But I do know we have to find Will!” I said remembering him for the first time. As we raced out of that room, reality hit me making me realise the importance of this quest and it was very real.

And I knew one thing: I wasn’t going to fail.
