Possessed

Near the beam, near the beam. That sentence was ringing in my head as we ran through dark corridors trying to find our way out of this cave. I had no idea what it meant but something was telling me that it wasn’t anything good. We had been running for about an hour now and everything looked the same to me! Dark passageways and smooth walls. Twist and turns, left then right then left again. I tried to keep track of which ways we were going but after a while I gave up.

“Do you know where we’re going?” I asked Will running to catch up with him. He was panting.

“Of course I do,” he didn’t sound very sure. “I’ve been here a million times,” I was starting to get really scared. How long had Lucy been planning this betrayal? Is she going to go to the Lord of Destruction? If so, we were most certainly doomed. Unexpected tears started running down my face. How could Lucy do this to me? She was, is my best friend! We were so close! I knew she was jealous but I didn’t think it would get this far. I couldn’t help but think that I could have prevented this and that made me cry harder. Will heard me sniff and looked down at me in surprise. We stopped jogging and slowed down to a walk.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, concern etched in his voice.

“Nothing,” I sniffled. I was starting to really feel sorry for myself but I pushed those thoughts away. You can’t stand around here crying! You have a quest to do! I scolded myself. I managed a watery smile at Will and he took my hand. I took a deep breath and we walked together, stepping in sync. It made me feel safe and I calmed down. Finally I felt wind blowing my face and I could see light at the end of the tunnel. We quickened our pace and suddenly I found myself in complete brightness. It was boiling but I’d never been so glad to see sunshine! I spun around to face Will and realised something was wrong. His face was screwed up as if he was in pain.

“What’s wrong?” I exclaimed running over to his side. He started shuddering and I lowered him to the grass, we were under the mountain and I dragged him under some shade, near a big tree. I felt his forehead and he was burning up. Suddenly his eyes snapped open and he was staring at something I couldn’t see. His pupils were wide open and he started to gasp and jerk around. His arms were flapping around as if he was having a spasm. I grabbed his arms and put them down by his side so he couldn’t hurt himself.

“Will! Will!” I yelled in frustration. He wasn’t answering just jerking around. I was scared, I had no idea what was going on. Suddenly he stopped moving altogether and his eyes started going completely white. I screamed, yes screamed! It was really scary; I thought he was turning into a zombie or something!

“YOU WILL DIE!” he suddenly yelled. I froze, completely freaked out.

“You think you can hide from me? You are completely mistaken,” he rasped. His eyes were staring at me but I could tell he was beyond seeing.

“I have your little idiot friend and I’ll soon have you!” Will laughed evilly. I was just staring with my eyes wide open and my jaw dropped. I’m sure I looked like a complete fool but I didn’t care. I was pretty sure who’d possessed Will. The Lord of Destruction. Then Will started jerking and moaning and his hand grabbed my shirt.

“Help me,” he gasped. I could tell it was Will talking now but I was so shocked I just stood there for a second. Then my brain started working. I had to save him. He was having a complete melt down, jerking uncontrollably.  As I was sitting next to him, on the brink of panic, I felt something nag in my stomach. It was the same feeling as when I found the knife at The Palace! I took the knife out (I carry it everywhere) and it was glowing blue again. It was getting hotter and I had a sudden idea. I ripped Will’s T-shirt open and I placed the knife on his abbs. I couldn’t help but marvel at his six pack. He was very muscly and his skin was very smooth and soft. As I held the knife into place, I tried to summon up the energy I had when the ball of light was in me. I felt pure strength flow into the knife. Then something miraculous happened. Will stopped jerking and moaning. He went still and closed his eyes. He was in a deep peaceful sleep. I stayed where I was for a while until I was certain Will would be ok. I climbed of off him; I felt so weak. It was as if I’d been drained from all my energy. I collapsed on the ground and blacked out, the knife still glowing in my hand.
