The Morning After

When I woke up I was disoriented for a while. I wasn’t on the bank of The Lake of Despair anymore. I was in a bed in my room! I bolted upright. What happened? How did I get back here? Was it just a dream?

“Honey! Breakfast!” my mum yelled up to my room. I was so relieved to hear her voice. I ran downstairs and hugged her so hard.

“Mum, it’s so good to see you!” I said.

“Its… good to see you to sweetheart, now sit at the table and eat your breakfast,” she said a little confused. Just at that moment my annoying brother, Max appeared.

“Max!” I yelled picking him up and swinging him around.

“Hey! Hey get of off me!” He yelled kicking at me. It was so good to see them all.

“Where’s dad?” I asked mum.

“He’s gone to work honey,” she answered, obviously worried by my strange behaviour. I gulped down my breakfast.

“I’m going to Lucy’s!” I yelled as I grabbed my jacket and hopped on my bike. I rode all the way to her house without stopping. I ran up to her door and knocked hard.

“Alex. Again. What a…. pleasant surprise,” Mr Lovegood opened the door. That stopped me in my tracks. I had forgotten about him.

“Morning,” I said stiffly. “Can I see Lucy for a moment?”

“Of course you can,” it was like de ja vu. He yelled up the stairs for Lucy just like the night we time travelled.

“Alex!” Lucy yelled running down the stairs. “We’ll be at the park dad,” she said. We both hopped on our bikes and rode to the park that we first met Mr Tall. When we got there we decided to walk through it. Before we knew it we were in front of the big oak tree that Mr Tall had come from. It wasn’t as scary in the day.

“It wasn’t a dream,” Lucy said. “We really did time travel!”

“Yeah, I think so,” I said in wander. Before she could say anything else, a rustle came from above us and a large, fat man jumped down.

“Mr Tall!” I exclaimed. He smiled at us. He was wearing a red jacket with purple buttons. It was a bad clash of colours. But only a man like him can pull it off.

“Ahh, girls! You did it! You saved all mankind! I congratulate you!” he exclaimed clapping his hands together.

“What happened to Will?” I asked.

“I’m right here,” and guess who jumped out of the tree? Will!

 I squealed and hugged him.

“How did we get home?” Lucy asked Mr Tall.

“You have changed the future and the effects of that started working immediately. You don’t exist their so you came back to where you do exist. The present,” Mr Tall explained. It was complicated and I wasn’t sure I understood it properly.

“I can’t stay long,” Will said gently. “I don’t belong in the present. I belong in the future,”

“I know,” I said softly. I was going to miss him a lot.

“Here,” he pushed something into my hand. Then Mr Tall and Will stepped back and disappeared. There were tears flowing silently down my cheeks and I looked at the piece of paper Will gave me. It was a picture of him. He looked young there, but he was still cute. Lucy put her arms around me and together we walked away from where the adventure had started. It wasn’t the end though. Oh no, it was the beginning of something much more.

My name is Alex White and that was my story of how I saved the world.
