The Volcano Island

I don’t think we realised it at the time, but our feet were carrying us towards the volcano, which was the worst idea we’ve ever had because it seemed to be getting ready to erupt as it was smoking at the top. That wasn’t our worst problem though, because we seemed to be in a prehistoric land. I’d seen thousands of dinosaur type animals running around and I half expected a T-Rex to come eat us! It looked exactly like that movie, ‘Walking among Dinosaurs.’

“What’s wrong?” I asked Will as we walked past thousands of exotic plants and animals. He was very quiet and looked upset.

“Nothing,” he answered and I squeezed his hand and he smiled at me gratefully. Finally we came to a cave and we set Lucy down while Will went to get some firewood. Lucy finally came round and she started to ask heaps of questions. When I had answered them as best as I could, she started to calm down. She was starting to get on my nerves! She passes out, and then expects me to be able to answer all of her questions? An awkward silence later, she looked embarrassed.

“What?” I asked noticing.

She took a while to think.

“So, you and Will, huh?” she said sheepishly. Oh no.

“Oh. Well, I dunno,” I said truthfully. I can’t believe she was bringing this up now! Completely inappropriate time!

“Because you guys look pretty comfortable,” she continued, starting to look jealous. I sighed loudly.

“It’s nothing, Lucy!” I said quickly. “Just forget about it,” I shrugged indifferently. I knew this was going to happen.

Will came in the cave then, but there was something wrong. He was panting and his face was white. Most importantly, he didn’t have any firewood. I mean, we need firewood right? It’s very important we keep warm! Don’t forget that we won’t be able to cook food!

“What happened?” I asked running up to him. “Why don’t you have any firewood?”

“The volcano!” he gasped and sat down. I ran outside the cave and there was a sight that made me want to give up completely.

The volcano was erupting.

There was molten rock flying out of it but the lava wasn’t pouring out yet.

This meant we had time.

Not a lot, but some.

I looked up to the top of the volcano and noticed a pterodactyl flying in circles above it. It seemed distressed but not because of the volcano.

“We have to go to the volcano,” Will said from behind me.

“What? Are you crazy?” Lucy exclaimed.

“No, he’s right,” I said. Something about the volcano drew me in. “But it will take us ages to get there! It has to be miles away!” I said in dismay. I looked at Will and saw a smile playing on his face.

“What are you thinking?” I asked cautiously.
