Will is standing on the edge of a lake. It’s eerily silent and my heart is thumping. I feel afraid but I know Will isn’t going to hurt me yet. He turns around slowly and his mouth opens. And it keeps opening! I want to run but my feet are frozen on the ground. “The Lake of Despair” Will says. Smoke starts pouring out of his mouth and his voice was raspy. The smoke is reaching me and it smells like death and decay. It covers me and then everything goes black and I’m falling backwards.
I gasp waking up. The Lake of Despair! I turn over to wake Will up.
“Wha… What’s going on?” he murmured.
“Will! The Lord of Destruction is at The Lake of Despair!” I rushed. Will was wide awake now and he’d gone pale. He shook his head.
“How do you know he‘s there?” he put some emphasis on the word there.
“I had a vision!” I said. I was excited.
“A vision? Are you sure about this?” He sounded sceptical
“Of course I’m sure!” I had never been so sure in my life. “Why do you doubt this? We should go now!”
“Not The Lake of Despair,” he said. I suddenly realised he was very afraid.
“Why are you afraid?” I asked curiously.
“Isn’t the name proof enough!” he exclaimed. I realised he was shaking. I frowned.
“What is The Lake of Despair?” I asked.
“A very desolate place! The water is poisonous. Once drank it’s almost impossible to cure,” my eyes widened. No, it couldn’t be! Could it? It hit me, it was the same lake Lucy had drank from and almost died!
“I’ve been there,” I whispered.
“What?”
“I saved Lucy there. She’d drunk the water!” Will stared at me.
“How did you save her?”
“I...I had this vision of an herb that looked just like a star. I figured it had to be growing around there so I ran around the lake trying to find it. I did and shoved it down Lucy’s throat!” I said, reliving it again. Will just stared at me.
“What?” I asked annoyed.
“It’s not possible. Nothing grows there. There are no animals or plants, or… anything!” he exclaimed.
“Well there was…” I trailed of. I flashed back to that event. I had been running around the bank wishing extremely hard for the herb, and then it had suddenly appeared! Had it been me?
“I think…I think I did it,” I whispered quietly.
“I think so to,” Will agreed. He shook his head.
“You have power. Power you don’t even know about,” he looked at me with new respect. I suddenly felt overwhelmed. He was right and I could feel it. Somewhere, deep within me, I had power. It was starting to get light and the suns looked beautiful.
“How far away is it?” I asked.
“About a day away,” he answered solemnly.
“That close?” I exclaimed. He nodded and my heart started racing.
“We should start right away then,” he said. I frowned.
“Ok,” I reluctantly agreed and once again we set off. I wandered what I had gotten myself into.
