Okay Amethyst, all you have to do is spill your guts to your brother about everything that has happened to you and not have an emotional breakdown!

Sounds easy enough!

...

...

NOT.

I spent about the next 10 minutes having a moral debate with myself on whether or not I was going to tell Dante about everything and how, not realizing that Laurance was right behind me.

"He's your brother Am, it really can't be that hard, can it?" I thought.

"But how do I keep him from going after Gene..." I contemplated.

"Maybe you can leave out Gene and just mention Sasha..."

"Hey, are you okay- GAH!"

I instinctively swung, clobbering Laurance right in the nose.

Oops...

In my defense, HE shouldn't have been standing so close to where my fist to could reach him.

I spun around and clutched my heart, "For the love of Irene Laurance, you should know not to sneak up on me like that!"

"I know now..." Laurance grumbled.

I helped Laurance to his feet and looked at his nose, which by some miracle, wasn't bleeding.

Once the tension had eased, to some extent, I glared at Laurance.

"Why were you following me?"

"Why yes, Amethyst, I'm okay, thank you SO MUCH for asking." He sarcastically remarked.

I rolled my eyes, "Okay, fine, sheesh... ARE. YOU. OKAY?"

"Well since you asked, yes, other than my bruised nose and a little bit of my pride, I'm perfectly fine." He smirked.

I laughed, "Why? Because you got nailed in the face by a girl- Wait! You didn't answer my question!"

He snapped his fingers, "Darn! I was hoping you'd forgotten!"

"Well? I'm waiting..."

"Well let's see, you woke this morning screaming your head off, then you blew your top at your brother, Garroth, and myself, passed out, Dante wouldn't let me give you mouth to mouth-"

"Y-you were going to give me mouth to mouth?!?" I stammered.

"Well I WAS, but then your brother punched me in the arm. Even though I know how much you can't resist my devilish good looks!" He ran his fingers through his hair.

I felt my face burning up.

Damn you Laurance!

"H-heh, yeah right!" I laughed nervously.

"Anyway, then you regained consciousness and booked it... And I was... Worried about you..."

I blinked, "Why?"

Because he cares, genius.

He sighed, "Look, I know I'm probably a pain in the butt to you, but I, really care about you Am... And I want you to be able to tell me what's wrong so that maybe I can help you."

I exhaled, "Fine, I give up, I'll tell you. But can we go somewhere a little more... Private? I don't feel comfortable telling you this where everyone can hear us."

He raised an eyebrow, "Are you sure you aren't dragging me off to a secluded place where you can kill me without being seen by witnesses?"

"Pfft please, if I wanted to kill you, I would have incinerated you A LONG time ago."

Laurance and I made our way to the newly built guard tower, me leading the way, but every time I glanced over my shoulder, I could have sworn that Laurance was... Was he... blushing?

You're being ridiculous Amethyst, his face is probably just turning red from when YOU PUNCHED HIM.

We climbed to the top floor of the tower and sat down at the table.

I told him about everything, Gene, Sasha, Pikoro Village, Jaxon...

Afterwards, I was met with the same look of disbelief and pity that Aphmau had given me.

"Am..."

"Don't," I stopped him, "I know you're about to tell me how sorry you are for what I went through, even though none of it was your fault, and how you wish you could have done something to help, but you shouldn't. I don't need anybody else feeling sorry for me. That's my job."

"I wasn't going to say that."

Now it was my turn to be in disbelief.

"What? Then what were you going to say?"

He took my hand, lacing his fingers into mine. I could feel my face heating up, yet somehow, I felt more at peace than I ever have before.

"I was going to say that you, Amethyst, are one of the strongest people I have ever met."

I stared at him in confusion, "Wait, why? Are you sure you're not just saying that because your face, arms, and stomach have become my fists' most recent victims?"

"You've been through all kinds of hell, and you've been able to push through, no matter what."

"I had no choice, I had to... For Dante-"

"But you could have given up. As much as you love your brother, you almost threw everything away because you couldn't take the pain and misery anymore. Not everyone can do that, Am. You're a lot stronger than you think, physically, mentally, and emotionally. "

Our eyes locked, a fluttering sensation coming over my heart.

You shouldn't be feeling this way Am, sure, he's considerate, funny, cute, and actually really smart-

But he's Aphmau's guard for the love of Irene! And he loves her...

Not you...

I brushed off a twinge of heartache and smiled at him.

"Thanks, Laurance..."

He laughed, "Wow, I think this the longest conversation we've had that didn't end in you hurting me, is there any chance that you've softened up-"

I pushed him off his chair.

"Ow..." He groaned.

What? He was asking for it.
