The alarm went off, ringing in my ears. First day of school is always painful. My hand slammed down on the alarm clock nearly smashing it to pieces.
Once I had dragged myself out of bed, I stumbled over to my wardrobe and picked out an r2-d2 t-shirt, some blue skinny jeans and a Hurley hoodie. I put my long, dark, thick hair into a low bun, practical for anything. Once my laptop, lunch money and homework was in my bag, I waltzed through the living room to the kitchen. My hands grasped a Granny Smith apple and bit into the juicy goodness.
"Honey, you're going to be late! School bell rings in 5 minutes!" My eyes glanced at the clock above my mother's head and sure enough, I was already running 5 minutes late. The remnants of my apple fell to the floor and I made a dash for the front door.
"Aren't you going to say goodbye?" My mother called after me. Since I had to be fast, I gave her a quick "bye" and sprinted out the door. I lived a 10 minute walk away from school so I generally walked to school.
All the houses along my street look exactly the same. All modern, pale and boring houses that make me want to puke. When my parents bought our house a year before I was born, they didn't like the grey, gloomy look so they decided to paint it like a colourful forest. Although it looks odd in the street, it's home to me.
My poor legs carried me all the way to school. I'm not a very fast runner and these new converse were rubbing on my feet. I stopped at the front entrance and slammed through the front doors. My locker was all the way at the end of the hall so I shuffled my way to it. Once my books, drink bottle and laptop were in my hands, I turned into the English classroom.
"Now class, we are going to study a novel for the rest of this term and you will have to write an essay."
Many groans escaped the mouths of my fellow students and I felt myself groan too.
"Lulu, nice of you to join us." Mrs. White said sarcastically. "I suggest you take a seat." Although I was top of the English class, the teacher didn't like me very much because I always corrected her.
The only seat left was at the back corner of the room where I normally sit. But today there was someone occupying the seat next to it. A new kid. Most of the new kids at my school got rejected as soon as they walked in, but I knew this one was going to be popular. He had short, soft brown hair, brown eyes and teeth as white as snow. For a minute I found myself staring but quickly scolded myself and sat down next to him.
"I'm Jared." He said in an enthusiastic tone.
"And I'm hungry, but does that matter? No." I quickly replied.
His hands shot out in front of me and grabbed my phone off the desk.
"Lulu Wickers. Likes: dancing and movies. Dislikes: strawberry topping and when people steal my phone. Wait. Why do you have a head guard on in this photo?"
"Give me that!"
"Lulu, could you please refrain from starting a mothers club in this point in time." The teacher said in front of the whole class. Everyone turned around and found me leaning over the new kids lap for my phone. My face blushed a shade of dark pink and I sat back in my seat.
"Mr. Green, could you please give Miss. Wickers phone back?" He handed over the phone and I shoved it in my pocket. "Both of you will be spending detention with me today at lunchtime. Don't be late or you will have an after school."
For the rest of the class, we spent time writing notes off the board and shooting each other death glares.
The class finished and I was just about to go to geography, until a hand grabbed the back of my hood.
"Could you quit it?!"
"Hey."
I turned around to look at Jared. Instead of getting a cocky smirk, I got a friendly smile.
"I was wondering if you wanted to give me a tour? We have Geography next so I figured you wouldn't mind missing it."
My face turned from a scowl to a huge grin.
"Why don't we give you a tour of the whole neighbourhood? Who cares about school anyway?"
"Alright. Only if it will be fun."
I didn't say anything else, I didn't need to. I ran over to my locker and shoved my books in not caring that they were a mess.
"Let's have some fun!" I said, grabbing Jared's arm so that he flung out in front of me. My legs shot straight towards the front door of the school. I could hear teachers all around, shouting at me to stop running. But I didn't take notice. When I reached the front door, I saw Jared, slowly following behind me.
I looked around and found my black bike parked up against the bike rack. It's wheels shone in the sunlight making it look brand new.
I went to jump on it, when I heard the hum of an engine. My head snapped up to reveal Jared's shiny new red convertible. My jaw dropped and I could feel him smirk at my expression.
The only words I could muster were, "Wow!"
