CHAPTER 2:
LOUIS' POV
"Louis! Mrs. Wilkins brought her computer! Get over here!" My lazy boss called out to me. I got up from the desk with an irritated groan, pushing my glasses up the bridge of my nose and walking out of my small and cluttered work room. I had been working on a hard disk of an old computer, restoring it.
I had no idea what the hell somebody wanted with that, but eh, it was my job and I was good at this stuff. And I was paid for it, so I shouldn't complain.
I worked at the computer repair shop after my classes in college, 'cos I was pretty good with computers. I was actually studying to be a software engineer or something, but I still hadn't decided on that.
I walked up to the counter to see Mrs. Wilkins chatting with Mikey, my boss, with a bit too much friendliness and oh-so-inconspicuously pulling her top down and leaning forward. I grimaced and approached them.
"Hi Louis!" Mrs. Wilkins winked at me. Cougar, ew.
"Er, hi. So what's wrong with it now?" I asked, cutting to the chase, gesturing to her shiny Macbook which had way too many tacky stickers on it.
"Oh, I have absolutely no idea Louis! It just keeps freezing up when I'm trying to watch my- er videos, and it just blacks out! Would you be a doll and fix it for me?" She practically batted her eyelashes at me and I mentally gagged.
Didn't she have a husband? God. Mikey was now scowling at me, clearly irritated by the unwanted attention I was receiving. "Go on then. Hurry up and fix it, four eyes!" He shooed me with a lanky hand, and turned back to his overly flirty customer.
I rolled my eyes and retrieved the laptop from the counter, taking it back to my work room. A few taps and a new software update later, the problem was gone in approximately six minutes. God, were these people dumb?
"Done already?" Mikey gasped, a bit impressed, then rearranged his face into a scowl.
I smirked proudly."Yep. It should work fine now Mrs. Wilkins. You won't have to come back here, I assure you," I smiled fakely.
She pouted. "Aw, that's a shame then." And with one last wink, she strutted out of the shop.
~*~
After an awkward and long day at work, I finally entered my apartment and collapsed on my couch. I lifted my head up with much effort and checked the clock hanging above the stove. 6 PM. Great. My friends usually come to crash here right about now and I've nothing for them to eat.
I had been putting off the simple trip to the local Walmart for ages even if it's a fifteen minute walk. Yes, I'm a lazy arse. And also 'cos I virtually had no time to even buy a few eggs.
I groaned and got up, knowing it this was inevitable. I couldn't avoid it any longer and I had to restock my pantry. And today was Friday, which meant the lads stuck around for the rest of the night, scarfing down my food.
My best friend Marcel and his boyfriend Niall lived a few blocks down, in an another apartment building quite similar to mine. Their living so close was both a blessing and a curse.
But Marcel and I had always lived close to each other, ever since we were little babies. Our Mums were best friends when we were living in Doncaster, where we were born and bred. Our parents had practically forced Marcel and I to move to New York to study together.
Him and I both loved technology, and that was another reason for us being best friends. I was cool with his boyfriend, Niall too. He had moved here from Ireland and was studying technology like us and met us in college. The most surprising fact is that he's a nerd, but doesn't look like one. Not even close.
