CHAPTER 12:
ZAYN'S POV
A few days had passed ever since that day I almost pummeled Niall, and neither he nor Marcel haven't even looked me in the eye since then. Not like I give a fuck.
It was damn early in the morning right now- I dunno what time, just that it was way too fucking early to get up. After gathering up a lot of willpower, I groaned and jumped out of the bed, checking the clock. Greaaat. 10 fucking AM. Too damn early for a Sunday morning.
Liam just can't swing by in the afternoon or something? True to his word, the apartment bell rung five minutes later, and I opened the door to let Liam in. Louis was still asleep like he was drunk.
Liam and I sat in the living room- well, more like Liam sat, while I sprawled out on the loveseat.
"So, what're the updates?" I asked, yawning at the end.
Liam raised an eyebrow at my sleepiness. "Good news, actually. Bryson tells us that they've gotten pretty close to figuring out Tanner's location, mostly from the help of Louis."
"Yeah, of course," I snorted.
Liam rolled his eyes. "Yeah. And because of that- oh-" Liam's cell phone beeped and he pulled it out, receiving the call and putting it on speaker.
"Good morning boys," we heard our boss' voice drift out.
"Morning," we both mumbled in response.
"Alright boys, good news!" Bryson began. "Due to massive help from the genius who we all know as Louis Tomlinson, we've gotten quite close to Tanner's location. There are now only three possible states where he could be hiding, 'cos that's where we found his men hidden. And believe me, it wasn't a decoy this time. He's smart, but we're smarter." Bryson's voice had taken a darker edge to it, and I briefly wondered if this all even meant something to him, more than just a job.
"And," Bryson's voice continued. "Now that we're close, so hopefully we'll capture Tanner and hand him over to the FBI in more or less a week. So, be happy boys, you're close to accomplishing your current mission. And Zayn, don't celebrate just yet, you still have a week, give or take, to endure Louis and vice versa," Bryson added with a chuckle.
I didn't say anything. Liam okayed Bryson, informed him of what he thought about Tanner waiting and planning something big, to which Bryson just told us to not worry, and keep protecting Louis.
Liam disconnected the call, then looked up at me. "Okay, mate. What gives?"
"Huh?"
"Why are you all sulky? Just the prospect of being close to completing a mission makes you do cartwheels, so what now?"
I sighed. "I don't know what to think of this mission, Liam. To be happy that it's about to be over? That we'll have to kill people again fter this? But we'll also be done with this one of a kind mission. God," I groaned.
To think I was actually regretting this mission in the first place. From being an assassin to a bodyguard for just one mission. Sure, I thought it'd be impossible, but it wasn't. Infact, maybe I enjoyed this mission a bit too much. It was both good, and bad I guess.
It felt nice while it lasted, not tracking down people, killing them in cold blood just 'cos someone hired you to. Sure, it was a way of life now and I had long since forgotten what feelings and emotions were, but lately I think I touched them.
And that alone, is scaring the shit out of me. And that's why, I think it's better that we get this mission over and done with as quickly as possible.
