Hufflepuff won the Quiditch match in the end. Apparently Danni had grabbed the Snitch just as James ran into the pole. She felt terrible. She felt like a cheater, and I reassured her that she wasn't. Danni came to tell James at the infirmary. He was honestly more upset about losing the match than falling twenty feet.
After that, life went on. And in the blink of an eye, three weeks flew by. December was in one week. Winter holiday was in three weeks. And James and I had been dating for nearly a month. We had only held hands though. I have been really hiding in my own shell. But I don't honestly think he cared.
So I woke up on that day of that last week of November, and it was like any other. I woke up, and got ready with Evi. Carol and Willa slept in a little later. We walked down our staircase and up the boys. We opened the door (we had stopped knocking long ago) and shook our boys awake, because seldom were they actually awake. they were ready in five minutes, and we went down to the Great Hall.
He locked his hand in mine. "I have a feeling today is gonna be a great day. How about you?"
I chuckled. "You say that everyday James. How is today any different?"
"I don't know. But it is." He smiled at me with his sort of goofy smile. We went on with our day. We ate breakfast with Sirius and Evi. Our other friends slowly joined us. And again we had another regular conversation. I swear that if it wasn't for James we would all die of a humdrum lifestyle. After we finished breakfast we had our morning Transfiguration class that we do every Thursday. And for some reason it was our only class on Thursday. I walked trailing along the back with James glued to me. I looked ahead, but I knew he was staring at me. He gets all silent when he does, like he is looking at a priceless piece of artwork.
We walked into our Transfiguration class. Our group were the last ones in.
"All of you, sit down! We have something exciting to discuss." said McGonagoll. I looked at the board. There was nothing written on it. "So, you all remember suffering through your OWLs last year, I would guess?"
Everyone moans just at the thought of those dreadful tests.
"And I suppose that you all remember having to pick up a formal dress or dress robes as a requirment this year. Well all of those who have passed most of their OWLs will get to participate in a reward ball. It is available to sixth and seventh years, but you may invite in lower years. All of the sixth and seventh years though must be passing OWLs takers."
The girls break out in excited chatter. My dress has been sitting in the back of my wardrobe for ages.
"Now a comment for all the gentlemen in the room. " She looks in the direction of the Gryfindor boys. "Do not assume that just because you are going out with a girl that she is instantly your date. Girls want a good and proper asking. Don't you slack! Now, that is all I have to say. Further information will be given a different day. You are dismissed."
I am talking excitily with Evi as we walk towards the door. She turns to Sirius who has just walked up behind us. "Oh Sirius! This is so exciting. And I thought that passing my OWLs was pointless!"
Sirius doesn't say anything.
Evi stops abruptly and looks serious. "You did pass you OWLs, didn't you Sirius? Sirius?" he is still silent. "Goddamnit Sirius, did you pass your bloody OWLs or didn't you?!"
"I passed half of them. But McGonagoll said we had to pass most of them."
"Well then you better go get on your bloody knees and beg McGonagoll that half is enough to be considered most. Now."
Sirius runs back into the classroom. I turn to James. I raise an eyebrow curiously.
"No need to worry Evans. You got yourself not only a handsome guy, but a smart one as well."
I laugh. "Go wait for Sirius. I will see you at lunch. " After that I walk away with Evi.
--------
The clock had struck noon and Evi and I were just sitting down at the Gryfindor table for lunch. We still hadn't heard anything from Sirius. Out of nowhere a siren spell rang throughout the hall. Everyone began looking around to find the source of the commotion. It appeared to be coming from two different locations. It was getting louder too. Then the noise entered the Great Hall.
"Oh my god," gasped Evi. Jame and Sirius were flying on their brooms above the tables blasting a siren spell. Just after we realized it was them they stopped the siren. The hall was silent. They jumped off of their brooms onto the Gryfindor table. They stood infront us.
"We are going to get in so much trouble for this, but we don't care!" screamed James. "Now, Lily.."
Sirius chimes in, "Evi..."
And then in unison they shouted, "Will you go to the ball with me?"
I nodded and began laughing. James was right. Today was a different day.
