Adam hears Brielle come in.
"Brielle, I'm up here!" He calls to her.
"Okay!" She replies. She walks up the stairs and finds Adam laying in his bed. She smiles at him, and starts to cry. She walks over to the bed and collapses onto it. Adam pulls her close to him, and rocks her back and forth.
"Shhh. It's okay." He whispers. She wipes her face.
"Oh Adam..." She tiredly sighs.
"I know..." He says.
"It's only been a day and I'm so tired of crying." She pity laughs at herself.
"I bet." He says. He lets go a bit, and they lay facing each other. Her red puffy eyes stare back at his brown eyes. She give a shy smile, and he gives her one back.
"So, who's in Florida? Like, what relatives?" Adam asks. Brielle clears her throat.
"Well, my aunts and uncles and my cousins. And my step brothers are out there too. I haven't seen any of them in so long. I'm not sure they even like me..." She says.
"How come?" He asks.
"When they first met me, I was super shy and quiet, so, yeah..."
"How could they not like you?" Adam says, and she blushes.
"Oh believe me, they could." She says smiling. She shivers, and rubs her arms.
"Oh, here," Adam says, pulling the blanket over her.
"You should have said something." He says.
"Thanks." She replies. She inches closer to Adam, and he accepts her with open arms. She smiles and crawls up into his chest. He wraps his arms around her and feels her gentle heart beat. Their warmth comforts each other, and they no longer feel alone.
~
Adam wakes up to the sun streaming in through the windows. His arms are still around Brielle, who's sound asleep. He looks down at her and smiles. He leans down and kisses her forehead. A few minutes later, her eyes open. She moans and stretches a little.
"Good morning." Adam whispers. She smiles and rubs her face.
"What time is it?" She asks. Adam reaches back and grabs his phone.
"Ten." He says. She sighs.
"I'm leaving at noon." She says, and makes a sad face. He makes one back.
"Do you want to drop me off at the airport?" She asks.
"Sure. What about your car?" He replies.
"You could keep it. Could you pick me up also?" She asks.
"Of course." He says. She lays with him for a few more minutes before she gets up and gets ready. After a while, they get ready and head out.
~
They walk into the airport and find Brielle's mom waiting for her.
"Hello Adam." Her mother says shaking his hand.
"Hello." He replies.
"Well, I'm all checked in so, hurry and get checked in and we'll get on the plane and go." She says. Brielle does as she's told and her mom gets on the plane. She and Adam walk to where you board, and she stops and turns around.
"Here." She says putting her keys in his hand. She looks up at him with glossy eyes, and smiles as a tear slides down her cheek. He wipes it away.
"It's alright. You'll be okay. I'm just a phone call away if you need me." He says pulling her into a tight hug.
"I'm gonna miss you Adam." She says into his chest.
"I'm gonna miss you too." He says, kissing the top of her head.
"Now go, you're going to miss your flight." He says letting go.
"Bye Adam!" She calls as she goes through the boarding tunnel. Adam starts to walk back to the car, the loneliness creeping back. He prays for her the whole drive home, hoping she'll be alright.
