Chapter 11

Wednesday May 13 2016

This is Alex, Bella asked me to write this for her while she has to spend the rest of the week in the hospital. I guess she never told you about what happened. Well, we were in gym again, but I was sitting out because of my concussion, and everyone else was doing fitness. They were almost finished when it happened. Bella was doing the most tiring station, sprints. She was on her last set when she stopped, she had her hand on her chest, she was wheezing, and she was pointing to something, I think it was... the office? She toppled onto her knees, and I ran over. I could only make out the words, 'Puffer' and, 'breath'. Before I could put together what she was trying to say, Julie had sprinted to the office to get her inhaler. She returned just moments later, pressed the mouthpiece over Bella's nose and mouth, and pushed the little button-thing that releases the medicine. She inhaled twice before slumping down, unconscious, onto the ground. A girl screamed, Mr.Cass called 911, and the principal ran in telling everyone to back away. However, she allowed me and Julie to stay. Bella was wheezing, and seeing her lying there, unmoving broke my heart. Julie came crying into my arms. I hugged her like my life depended on it, after all, Bella wouldn't care, she knows that nothing could come between us. The ambulance syrin got closer and closer until it stopped. the gym door opened with a click, and I glanced up at the medics coming in through blurry eyes. My head throbbed. I looked at Julie, and her eyes were red and wet. Her breathing was heavy, and she was shuddering. I led her away as the EMS rolled Bella past us on a stretcher with an oxygen mask over her nose and mouth. She was breathing.

I received a distressed phone call from Julie as soon as I got home from school. "Alex?" She said through sobs. "Have you heard anything from Bella?" She finally said after a moment of heavy breathing. "No, and I'm really worried. You know how much I like Bella and well, I just wish..." "That you kissed her?" She cut me off. "Um..." I was stunned. She really just said that? Bella really told her everything. Was that what she wanted to happen? I've made a mistake, and now I wish I could fix it. If Bella makes it through this, I know what I'm doing. I'm going to ask her out again, and do what I probably should have done last time. "Is that a yes or a no?" Julie said starting to get annoyed. "Yes, and for you, so that you don't have to listen to her whining, I will ask her out again, and do it," I spilled. "Would you care to help?" "Of course!" She exclaimed. We started planning my next date with Bell. I know, It's not the most sensitive thing to do, but It kept our minds off of what was really happening. We chatted for almost three hours, planning and joking around. I think me and her are going to be really good friends when this whole thing is over. After I hung up, Julie texted me at about quarter to six. She said that she had gotten a call from Bella's mom, saying that Bella was alright, she had woken up, but had to stay in the hospital for the rest of the week to make sure she doesn't have another asthma attack. I texted her back,

Thanks, I was getting really worried. I hope she gets better.
She responded,
Yeah, me too. My mom is taking me to see her tomorrow after school.

Oh, I wish I could come.
I said.

Yeah...
