"That's impossible. How can you say that when all she did was cut herself on some glass?" What the doctor is saying is bull. There is no way my sister is schizophrenic. 

"Michael, I understand your question but this is something we have to look into. Katelyn could end up being in a mental hospital if it becomes that bad."

"What? That's messed up!" Ashton buts in before I could yell in protest. The last thing i want is my sister in a mental hospital. Yeah sure I may not like her but I don't hate her that much so that she's being held prisoner in a mental asylum.

"Look sir, -"

"Why were you messing around her head anyway? Surely the cut wasn't that deep that you needed to do some serious testing?" Luke questions.

"We have our reasons- wait a minute. Only family are aloud to know this information and as far as I know he is her brother and only relative in the room." He says pointing to me.

"Cousins." 

"Excuse me?"The doctor says.

"We're cousins. Michael is Katelyn's brother but we are all cousins." Calum must have been thinking of that because there is no why he could think of that right there and then.

"I see." The doctor doesn't seem so convinced. "Well, Katelyn had glass in her head. We had to make sure-"

"What did you do? Give her a cat scan?" I interrupt. (A.N: Please note that I don't actually know how they test for schizophrenia. Just thought I'd put that in.)

"Why yes in fact we did Michael, thanks for asking." Oh hell no. I ain't paying for that. "Don't worry about cost. Your family has life insurance." Mind reading psycho doctor.

"Do you know when she will wake up?" I ask. 

"Sometime in the next 4 hours." Great.  

I pull out my phone and text mum:

'Decided to listen to your constant advice, spending some bonding time with Katelyn. Don't know when we will be back but don't worry we will be fine. I'll try to look after her.''

She wont be able to reply till she gets a break but at least she has some warning as to where we are. Thank goodness we are in a different hospital to the one she works in. We're at general and she works at the private one across town.

"Who ya textin?" Ashton asks.

"My mum. Making sure she doesn't have a heart attack when she gets home and sees that both her children are gone."

"What did you tell her?"

"We are having some quality sibling time and don't know when we will be back."

"Fair enough."

2 hours and 40 minutes later

I'm siting next to Katelyn's bed contemplating what the doctor said. I know all about schizophrenia. Idid a report on it in freshman year and it still remains to this day my best ever grade and result in all of my school life. Most likely it's gonna stay that way as well. I just don't understand. Has she had it her whole life? Did it just happening one day? Why hasn't she told mum? Does mum even know?

Ashton, Luke and Calum went out to buy snacks 10 minutes ago claiming that their stomachs were eating itself they were that hungry. I wanted to stay with my sister. This is the first ever time in my life that I wished I had always been there for her. Maybe she would have told me if she knew I would listen. But damn. Schizophrenia.

I hear Katelyn's breathing change as her head starts to move slightly. Her eyes open up.

"Oh frick that's bright." 

"Hey." 

"Hey. Where am I?" Her voice is all croaky.

"Hospital."

"What happened?'

"You cut yourself. Dropped a glass and my mates and I ran in and you were covered in blood. What's the last thing you remember?"

She blinks a few times before responding.

"You called me a freak and then I just blacked out." Perfect (Not).

"Katelyn. How long have you been aschizophrenic?" She freezes.

"What?" 

"You heard now answer the damn question." She's not playing games with me now, not about her mental health.

"Since I was about 7 I think." Holy ****

"Why didn't you tell anyone?"

"Well last year I found out that I definitely had it. I didn't tell you because you hate me, and when I told mum she said 'pull yourself together. Your just going through a phase' so yeah. How did you find out?"

My heart broke in two. I could have helped her if I was a decent big brother.

"The doctor found out. He told Luke, Calum, Ashton and I."

"Great so all your friends know?"

"The ones that matter."

"Perfect."

"Let's decide on one thing though."

"What?"

"We don't tell mum and if she asks where we were we were having a sibling bonding session and spending time with each other. Deal?"

"Deal."

Looks like senior year is the year I finally tolerate my sister.
