Chapter 5, Friendship Blooms

I flinch away from the man when he steps forwards and I huddle closer to the woman. she rubs my arms gently and stalks away from him. "I'm sorry, I don't know what came over him... I am Joyce his mother, and that man right there is my mate, Carter." she says. I look at the woman then the man. the man looked very similar to the man and when he smiles at me it was filled with confusion but also with concern and happiness.

"Who is this young lady?" he asks. "It would seem... that Alexander hurt her." Joyce says softly stepping up to him. the man gives me a small smile. "Don't worry kid, He wouldn't do it again, he just needs time to think what he did." the man says. they sit on the couch with me in-between and I curl up into the woman exhaustion weighing down my eyes. "Sleep little one, We will protect you from harms way." Joyce says softly. I gradually doze off with a silent sigh.

I wake up in Joyce's arms and Carter in front of us. "Give her to me!" The man -Alexander- Snarls. his eyes were darker than black and I huddle deeper into Joyce. "Briar stop! you are scaring the children!" Carter's voice booms in his alpha tone. Alexander only growls and he stalks towards us. Carter beats him to us as pushes Alexander away. Joyce rubs calming circles on my arm but that doesn't stop the tears from welling up.

Alexander leaps forwards and the battle begins. Carter swing a fist right across Alexander's face as Alexander round house kicks him. Carter flies into a wall but straightens immediately. His eyes were dark black also but they had a bit of Green in it showing he was in control too. he leaps forward slamming Alexander into a wall before He could reach us and I feel something wet and warm splash on my cheek. I look up confused and I see that Joyce is crying silently.

I tug her sleeve and point to the stairs where four guards were looking concerned. Joyce nods to them and they leap into the fight pulling them back before they could hit each other once more. Alexander's lip was split, and had a black eye as well as dark bruises. Carter had a broken wrist from the wall, a split lip also, and a cut across his shoulder. I whimper and Alexander's gaze snaps to mine. I flinch back and they turn back to their normal color. Green like his father's. 

He stops struggling and he stares into my eyes which held fear and confusion. "I'm sorry." he says after a moment looking at Carter, me, and Joyce. "It's fine, just control Briar more please." Joyce says voice trembling. he only nods as the guards pull back from both of them. the pack doctor looks at Carter then Alexander confused for a moment. Alexander sighs and sits on the couch next to us and Joyce sits next to him still holding me. Alexander takes me gently from Joyce and I snuggle into his broad chest.

He watches as the pack doctor talks to Carter. He rubs my arm gently and slowly I begin to drift off into a deep sleep.

I could only see darkness but soon the darkness brightens dimly to reveal the cage I lived in before I was with Alexander. I whimper and father appears red faced in anger. he raises a whip and I flinch. It smacks down across me multiple times, pain erupting where it hit. I thrash about but I was held down. "River! River! Wake up!" a man shouts.

I jerk awake whimpering and I see Alexander looking down at me with concern. "Sh, River, Sh. You're okay. you're going to be fine. It was just a dream." he says rocking me back in forth. I was trembling and I probably reeked of fear. I huddle into him and he places a kiss on my forehead. I smile slightly and I let him rock me back to sleep humming a lullaby.

I wake up with Alexander dozing right next to me and I curl into him. I poke him and he wrinkles his nose before opening his eyes. "Good Morning River." he murmurs sleepily. "Dada, can I... play?" I ask softly my voice still having the childish tint to it. He grins and sits up. "You called me dada." he says shocked. I giggle. "Dada. Can I pleeease?" I ask softly. he chuckles and nods. I sit up and I look at the floor from the tall bed I was in. I climb down and I totter around. "Where are you going lil' Rascal, you have to take a bath first!" Alexander says scooping me in his arms. I squeal giggling as he carries me into the bathroom. he starts to fill the tub with warm water and his eyes glaze over a second.

A moment later someone knocks on the door and he opens it. a woman in her late teens comes in with a small smile. "Alpha, Future alpha daughter. I brought her some clothes as you asked." she says nodding her head at Alexander. "Thank you Mira, You can help her if she wishes. River, This is Mira, The Beta's Mate. Mira, This is River." Alexander says introducing us. She gives my a smile and I give her a small smile in return. Alexander steps out and shuts the door behind us.

 "River is a beautiful name." Mira comments looking me up and down. "Yours... is better." I murmur tilting my head slightly. She chuckles. "Let's get you out of those clothes shall we?" she asks. she tries to remove my shirt but I hold it to myself. "Honey, I've already saw them. They make you beautiful. At least you will become a strong tough girl in the future. I'm just stuck in this house waiting for my mate to come back when he goes to train." she says.

 hesitantly I let her pull me out of my clothes and she sets me into the tub. she washes me and lathers my skin in some rose body wash and pine shampoo and conditioner. I let her do so as I grab the bubbles and when she pulls away I toss them in her face with a giggle. she chuckles wiping the bubbles from her face and rinses me off. she wraps me in a fluffy towel once I'm out and dries me off. she helps me into the clothes she got which was a light blue sweater and jeans. a pair of white cowboy boots and a bracelet. "This shows our friendship." she says grabbing my hands. "Okay." I say bouncing around.

Ooh, 1128k words for the chapter NOT including this. Aww, River has a friend! How sweet!
