"Mr. James Delgado, please step in." The guard says
He unbuckles my cuffs, I sit down in front of the judge. He organizes his papers.
"I know you're paid off by the government by the way." I say
"Well you could think that all you want, but let's get started." He says
"Mr. Delgado." The judge says, "You have been found guilty of treason, betrayal, interference of public normality, and over one hundred accounts of murder."
"For treason, the sentence is fifty years, for betrayal and interference fifteen years. For the murders, the death penalty." He says, I remain calm
"You will be shipped, along with everyone else, to the Republic of America penitentiary, where you will be executed in two years." He says. "Any questions."
"Yeah, how do I get out of this." I sarcastically say
"You can't, should've thought about this a long time ago." He says
The guard issues me outside, where everyone else waits in a line, I'm one of the last ones. It's dead silent in the hallway, they put the cuffs back on my wrists and ankles. One guard watches over us, gun in hand. He's one of the better guards, the others really like to pick on us, usually by beating us. I have multiple wounds and bruises from them.
He walks over to me, and puts the barrel of the gun at my chest, "Delgado, though I'd never see you in person."
"Why does that matter, you guys hate us anyway." I say
"In fact I don't." He says, I look at him in confusion.
"I want you guys out, you think I like it here? I get paid next to nothing here!" He says
"How are you gonna do that?" Noah asks
"I'm the one that's supposed to send you to the penitentiary, but I don't have to." He says
"What do you mean by that." I ask
"I have access to all the guns, cars, anything you want or need, I have it." He says
"What do you want from this?" Chloe asks
"A place in the rebellion." He says
"It's yours." Chloe quickly responds
"Sweet, stay on the down low, we will leave when you're supposed to leave." He says
"Which is?" Chloe asks
"One week from today. Actually, if you meet at your normal dinner table, I'll talk to you more about it." He says
"What about everyone else?" I ask
"They're not receiving trials, but we'll break them out, we'll take out this whole prison." He says
An official walks out, and the guard shuts up. He tells us to go back, and we follow his orders, the guard walks us back, and unlocks all of our cuffs.
To my surprise, no one picks on us as we walk in, they really like to pick on us. And it's already dinner time, I grab my slop and sit down at our table, the guard follows me, he sits down next to me. "I never got your name?" I say
"Joseph Haywood, James I thought you'd recognize me." He said
"Joseph?" I say
"Call me Nate, because that's my alias. I escaped jail and got hired here, kinda to stay under the radar." He says
"Dang man, long time no see." I shake his hand, "No wonder why you want to help us."
Everyone in the team sits down, eager to hear what Joseph has to say.
"Okay, so I was thinking that I'd load the truck with guns before hand, so we don't look suspicious." He says
"How are you gonna do that?" Noah asks
"Every guard in the jailhouse is asleep by twelve." Joseph says, "I have access to the trucks and guns." He says
"Sweet." Noah says
"So once we get in the truck, we'll flip around to the front. I'll give you guys masks, we'll raid the front office and kill the jailhouse official." He says
"That'll probably result in a firefight, we win. We take all the trucks and guns, and we'll go to the nearest charter. It's a big one, and there leadership is almost non existent. They have a big peacemaker force though." Joseph says
"Wow, you have this all planned out." I say
"I have a lot of free time." He says
"Sound good?" He asks
Everyone says yes, "By the way, I'm Joseph. But call me Nate, my alias." He tells us
Everyone looks in shock, we all know who he is.
"Well I gotta run, I'll see you in a week, as soon as they let you guys out, meet me here." He says, "This is a small window of opportunity, use it wisely guys."
He gets up and goes to the group of guards. We chat about the plans, this is an amazing opportunity, we're playing the government at their own game.
"Aye Delgado!" Someone says, I turn around, and it's the kid I beat up a while ago.
"What." I respond
He throws boxing gloves at me, "Let's go. This time you and I are prepared." He slips on the gloves, I follow him. Why not?
Him and I ready ourselves. A circle of people watch us.
"You ready to lose again?" I ask
"Check yourself Delgado." He says
"Hey I never learned your name, what's your name?" I ask
"My name is-" I jab his jaw, he is thrown back. He doesn't look happy. He throws a long swing for my face, I easily block it. I let him try to land a hit, but he's unsuccessful. He gets me in the stomach once, but I recover easily. I jab at his stomach, he curls inward, grasping for air. I pounce on him, jabbing him on the head repeatedly.
"Okay! Okay!" He says
I back off, "The names Rodriguez." He says
"Pleasure to meet you Rodriguez." I say
"You fight hard for your size Delgado." He says
"Thanks to the training I got." I say
I give him the gloves, and he walks away. Chloe finds me, and grabs my arm, "Again?"
"With gloves this time, c'mon it's just for fun. I didn't get hurt." I say. "I don't know about the other guy."
She laughs, "Oh James, you always keep me on my toes."
She wraps her arm around me, we walk back to the cafeteria.
"I'm scared James, what did we get ourselves into?" My mom asks, we sit across a table together.
"Don't worry, we're getting out of here, tomorrow actually." I say
"What?" She asks
"A guard here is helping us out tomorrow. We're getting out of here." I say
"How?" She asks
"I don't want to say, but be prepared to leave as soon as you wake up, don't be surprised to see gun fire." I say
"James I've been around here for a while, gun fire doesn't scare me anymore." She says. "Oh and I'm so proud to see you grow, you've become a great pilot, I see you gear up and take off. You make me proud." She smiles, and grabs my hand.
"Thanks mom." I smile. "I'm sorry we haven't gotten to talk in a long time, it's my fault."
"Don't worry, you're busy, I understand. You're constantly at meetings discussing more important things. Just make sure to update me occasionally." She says
"I will." I say. "I'm excited to see what will happen, we're scaring the government." I say
"You sure are." She says. "But regardless of the circumstance and the outcome, I'm always proud of you." I see her smile radiate from her face, she's always been a very positive women.
