I don't know what came over me. I guess I felt some sort of need to tell them all about. I just wanted to blurt out my secret. I wasn't going to have them think I was some secret telling liar who ruins everything for everyone. They needed to know the truth and I had to tell them.
Kathy's jaw dropped down so far I thought it might hit the table she was sitting at. Katiniss looked as though she was distracted by something. Macy stayed quiet while playing with her fingernails, and Ryan... Ryan looked like he was taking pity on me. Isn't that a first? Aisha was the only one who spoke up.
"Depression, what is it exactly?" She asked with a sort of confused look.
I took a second to compose myself with an accurate answer.
"Depression is like drowning, while watching everyone around you still breathing." I answered. I heard a hitch in Aisha's breathing. I decided I would help her out a little more to understand what I was really going through. "Depression is like screaming to someone, but no words escape your lips. Or when you open your eyes, and all you can see is the pitch black surrounding you. When you can feel yourself trying to get up, but no part of your body is able to move. Depression, depression cannot be cured with something found in a first aid kit." I found myself wiping the tears falling from my eyes. I had not expected to get like this. I was supposed to be the one who had everything together.
"Catarina, I'm so sorry. I had no idea about your brother, and I'm such an idiot for pushing the subject. I'm so sorry." Macy apologized, overly upset. I had never seen her be rude to anyone. So I'm sure it was killing her inside to know what she had just put me through. To make it worse, she probably even knows what it's like to be 'put-on-the-spot' like that.
"Guys, I want to apologize for everything I've put you all through," I started. "For some reason, I guess I thought I could handle everything while trying to deal with my own messed up life. Like honestly, my thoughts are more tangled than my headphones." I earned a crack of a smile from each person sitting with me. "But guys, I'm being completely honest when I say I'm sorry, and I never wanted to break up any friendships or ruin relationships. I was only trying to help everyone out."
Ryan finally spoke up. "Catarina, I think that I speak for everyone when I say, it's okay. We accept your apology, but I think we all owe you an apology as well. It wasn't fair for us to dump our problems onto you and even if we didn't know about your depression, it still wasn't right. We're sorry." He said. "I'm sorry." He finished sweetly giving me a small smile.
That was by far the sweetest thing Ryan had ever said to me. I could understand why Katiniss liked him.
"I don't like like you Ryan. I think I need to let you all know this, especially you Macy." Katiniss was almost reading my mind, and I wasn't sure how I felt about this...
"Katiniss I don't think I really want to talk about this right now. You don't have to-"
"No Macy, I'm saying this now, or else I might never." Katiniss cut Macy off. I sure hoped she knew what she was doing. We were almost done the school year with only two weeks left until our graduation and dance. Then were free. Let's not make rivalries at the end of the year.
"I need you guys to know that I don't like Ryan. Rumours spread way too quickly, but I am absolutely positive that I don't have feelings for Ryan." Ryan looked a little hurt, Katiniss noticed this because she carried on. "Yes, you are a really cool guy and all, but I just don't like you like that." She paused for a second. "I actually have kinda started to like someone else for the past little while now." We all snapped our heads in her direction, edging her on with our eyes. "I like, uh, Adam."
"What?!"
And who do you think was standing at the door of the engagement room at that very moment? None other than Adam. Isn't this day full of rainbows and sunshine?
Ryan stood up, and for once in his life was defending someone other than Macy. "Adam, what are you doing here? We are trying to work out our problems." Ryan seemed to be a little angry with Adam, and you could sense the hint of sadness as he realized that Adam knew something he potentially should not have.
"Well, I was sent back here to see if you guys were done discussing your issues, but obviously, you're just getting started." Adam added with a bit of sarcasm added to his voice. Then he turned to Kat, "Is it true Katiniss? What you just said?"
"Well, umm," Katiniss didn't answer right away. Her cheeks just flamed red. Then she strongly responded, "Yes, it is."
Adam looked from Ryan to Katiniss and back to Ryan. Suddenly he walked right up to Katiniss and grabbed one of her hands. He looked straight into her eyes while the rest of us watched in shock.
"Katiniss, will you be my girlfriend?"
