"You six, to class now." Mr.M snarled to us as he walked into the engagement room. He was wearing his normal mean expression to perfectly compliment his dress shirt and leather jacket. Fashion faux pas, if I do say so myself.
As the six of us stood up and walked down towards our class, Ryan continued on with the grad subject. "So, Macy and I are going together to grad,"
Macy sighed dramatically, "I suppose so."
Ryan just rolled his eyes playfully and just continued on, "And Katiniss and Adam will most likely be going together. So what about the rest of you girls?"
Kathy looked at the floor, as if embarrassed she didn't have a date. I felt bad for her knowing she desperately wanted someone to go with her. In all honesty, I think she just wanted to feel wanted.
I decided to take the lead in this conversation because neither of the other girls were answering. "Well, I'm going to grad by myself." I answered proudly. The other five of them looked at me like I had three heads. I'm not exactly sure why that was such a big deal, but I had a feeling I was going to find out.
"Really?..." Macy trailed off. She looked confused and not at all pleased with me. She actually looked like she wanted to stay as far away from me as possible. I guess going by yourself really was bad.
"Yeah, why not? I mean, no ones asked me yet, and I'm not expecting to. So why would I even get hopes up, when I could just be fine going by myself? I don't understand why you guys are so against that." I said, a little bewildered that some of them looked almost mad about me not going with anyone.
"It's just... Cat, don't you wanna go with anyone?" Kataniss asked. I considered this for a moment, and then simply answered,
"No."
I think I may have heard one of them gasp. What was their problems?
"Guys, why are you acting like this. Just cause I'm not going to grad with anyone, doesn't mean you need to act like this! I wish you would all just drop the subject." I yelled to the other five surrounding me in the hallway.
"Cat, we just don't want you to get made fun of! Okay, that's why we're pushing you to go with someone. Only the outcasts, the weirdos, don't have dates. You're our friend, and you are neither of those. We only want to make things easier for you." Kathy screamed to me. She looked defeated, and I suddenly understood why this mattered so much to them. Well the four of them, Aisha hung back not saying anything. She honestly looked like she wasn't paying attention.
"This isn't about me. None of this is about me. You guys couldn't care less if I didn't have a date if I wasn't your friend. But since I am, all you guys care about is your reputation. How you look to other people. And if I look bad, all of you look bad! Oh, I can't believe you guys are so, low..." I stormed off down the hallway. I wasn't looking back. I don't know if there was anything that could ever make me look back.
Until I heard Katiniss scream. "Aisha! Aisha, please, get up! C'mon, don't leave us." And then I heard her sobs. No matter what, I knew I had to go back. And when I did, I saw my four best friends huddled around a limp body, lying in the hallway.
Aisha.
