Two little boys opened the door. One was slightly bigger than the other. The bigger one looked to be in middle school. He had brown hair that was styled like Percy's. The smaller one looked about elementary. He had brown hair too but his hung in his eyes.
"Are you the friend that's bringing over Eclipse?" the small one asked.
"Idiot. Can't you see he's carrying her?" the bigger one said to his younger brother. "Come on in."
"Thanks." her house on the outside was painted red. On the inside it was all different colors. It had black wooden stairs in the main room leading up to a second floor. The main room was yellow. It had a brown couch in the middle of the room facing a small flat-screen TV. Behind that there was a step up to another room. It was probably the dining room because it had a big table and five chairs. And that was also the kitchen because behind the table there was a counter and other kitchen-y things. Like a stove and a microwave.
I set her down on the couch and sat down. Her brothers sat on the floor and stared at me.
"Umm.... Hi?" I said awkwardly.
"Hi." they said together. That wasn't creepy at all. Totally.
"I'm Leo. I'm her new friend."
"I'm Alex and this is my little brother Daniel." said the bigger one, Alex.
They both started laughing.
"What? What's so funny?" I asked, confused.
"We just can't keep a serious face." the smaller one, Daniel said in between laughs.
"So what did Jace do this time?" Alex asked.
"Oh. In PE we were playing capture the flag and she went running to the other side to get their pin when Jace knocked into her a little too hard on purpose and she slammed her head on the corner of the bleachers. I took her to the nurse and she told me to bring her here." I told them the story. "So this kind of thing happens a lot?"
"Yeah." they said at once again.
"Ok. Well the nurse also told me that she wouldn't let anyone else interfere with this stuff. Why? She just lets herself get bullied?" I asked.
"Yeah. She doesn't let anyone help. But she has her own way of dealing with it. Trust me. No one bullies our family without hearing about it from her. Every Friday night Jace and her go to the movies." Alex smiled as if this explained everything.
"Why does she go to the movies with someone who does this kind of thing to her?" I started to mess with some wires and gears, not really paying attention to what I was making out of them.
"Ask her if you can go with her and Jace tomorrow. I think you'll be surprised." Daniel started to snicker.
Just then, Eclipse sat up suddenly and kicked me.
"Ow." I said, holding my leg.
"Sorry Leo. Wait. Leo? What are you doing in my house?"
"I brought you here after you fainted. The school nurse told me to. Since someone named Brandon isn't here? Who's that?"
"Brandon is my brother."
"I thought these two were your brothers." I said pointing to Alex and Daniel who were still on the floor.
"Well they are. But I have three brothers. Brandon is in college. That's why he couldn't pick me up."
"Eclipse. Go look in the mirror. And wash the blood off your forehead." Alex said.
"It cut?" she asked.
"Yeah. Pretty big. Go look."
She practically ran to a door in the wall that I hadn't noticed. She turned a light on and washed the blood off her face. When she had all of it off, Daniel went in to look too. She leaned in closer to the mirror and smiled.
"Yes! That will leave a scar! Cool!" she said excitedly and high fived Daniel.
"Did you just say 'cool!' to having a scar?" I asked.
She sat back down next to me. "Yeah. In this house, we get excited about scars. They stand as a sign of how tough you are. But you can't just scar yourself because that would be cheating. And weird. I have one on my right wrist. I got it when I was eight and accidentally fell off the dirt bike. See?" she held up her wrist and showed me a scar that was at least an inch and a half long and ran diagonal along her forearm. "It didn't go very deep but it was pretty cool."
"Didn't it hurt?"
"Well, yeah. Of course it hurt. I was bleeding pretty bad. I didn't cry though."
"Eclipse never cries. Ever." Daniel told me, proud of his older sister.
"Ever?"
"Never."
"Not even when she broke her arm when she was six."
"How did that happen?"
"It was when I was playing football with Brandon. He threw the ball to me and I tripped while running. We were playing in the street because nobody ever drives this far out into the country. And I fell and went sliding across the pavement and landed on my arm. I got right back up and said 'Where's the ball?'. But Mom noticed and took me to the hospital to get an X-Ray and a cast. But sadly, it didn't scar." when she said 'mom' everyone momentarily looked down. She started playing with the bracelet/ring on her left wrist. It seemed like just the mention of their mother caused them pain.
"What's that bracelet you keep messing with?" I changed the subject because they still looked sad.
She seemed to notice she was messing with it. "Oh. This? My mom gave me this before she left three years ago for the Navy. She told me it was a gift from my dad since he couldn't be here to give it to me." again, they looked sad.
Again, I changed the subject. "So how many scars do you have?"
"I have five!" Daniel said.
"I have eight! I have more than you!" Alex bragged.
"I have more than both of you combined. I've got fifteen." she said proudly.
"Yeah yeah."
"Which one's the most interesting?"
She thought about it for a while. "The one I got today. It just so happened to be on the day I finally found got a friend."
"That reminds me. What is with you and Jace going to the movies on Fridays? Why would you want a bully with you to see a movie?" I asked, curious.
"You can come with me if you want. Just meet me in front of the side door tomorrow at six. I have a feeling you'll be shocked at what you find." she said with a smirk.
