• Evan •

"I'm going to go use the restroom. Be right back." Mackenzie says, standing up from her seat across the booth from me and Hannah. She walks to the bathroom and I turn my attention to Hannah.

She furrows her eyebrows and bites down on her lip. She looks upset so I know I'm about to be fussed at now that Kenzie is gone.

"Evan, you're my boyfriend." She states. I nod my head slowly, feeling confused. That's not really something I expected her to say.

"I know that..." I trail off. Hannah huffs and gives me a frustrated look.

"What I'm trying to get across is that I'm your girlfriend, not Mackenzie!" She says lowly. I nearly sigh out loud but I stop myself before I do.

Hannah sometimes gets on this kick where she thinks that I'm in love with Mackenzie. I'm definitely not, Kenzie's just my best friend. I've never felt romantically attracted to her or anything like that.

"Hannah, I don't like Mackenzie like that. You know I love you." I tell her. She purses her lips.

"No I don't know that!" She says loudly, but quiets down as Mackenzie walks out of the bathroom.

"You spend more time with her than with me. Do you know when we last went on a date?" She asks in an angry whisper.

I don't answer though because Mackenzie is almost to the table and we can't very well have this conversation in front of her. I also don't really want to have this conversation at all.

"So what'd I miss?" Mackenzie asks as she sits down. I shake my head and give her a look, one that says 'don't ask'.

Mackenzie shrugs and I watch as she brings her lips to the straw sticking out of her smoothie. I look over at Hannah and nearly cringe at the look she's giving me. Her eyes are narrowed, lips in a tight line, and nostrils flared. Not a good look on her, to be honest.

Okay, okay. I shouldn't be thinking that since she's very clearly mad at me... even though I didn't really do anything. She is my girlfriend and I love her, so I need to do something to make it up to her. To make her happy.

I mentally sigh. I guess I should take her on a date. It's probably not a good thing that I really can't remember when the last time I took her on a date was. To be fair, we were away from each other all summer. I'm sure if she had been here we would've gone on some dates. I take a sip of my peach smoothie.

"So how was that place you went to?" I ask Hannah. She rolls her eyes.

"It was good. We did a lot of cool stuff. Our tour guide was the sweetest guy. He was pretty cute too." She says, giving me an innocent look and taking a drink of her strawberry banana smoothie.

She's trying to make me jealous? I should probably act like I care, even though she'll most likely never see the guy again.

"Not cuter than me though, right?" I frown and try to sound jealous. Hannah just shrugs and looks down at her smoothie.

I look back up and Mackenzie is giving me a sympathetic look. The table is surround by an awkward tension and I don't know what to do about it. Hannah doesn't really seem like she wants to talk to me and if I try to fill the silence by talking to Mackenzie, she would probably be more upset. I sigh aloud this time, unable to keep it in. Hannah whips her head up.

"If you have a problem, then you can just leave!" She snaps.

What the fuck is her problem?!

"Let's go then, Kenzie." I say, standing up. I know it's probably not the best idea to leave her like this, but I'm tired. I'm tired and I don't know what else I'm suppose to do. Mackenzie looks so uncomfortable, it's almost funny.

"Of course." Hannah mutters. "Take your real girlfriend with you."

I clench my teeth together and try not to say anything. I love Hannah and I don't want to upset her. I just need to stay calm.

    Uggggh. Fuck.

"We rode here together, Hannah! You know that. Why are you being such a bitch?!" I shout. Honestly why is she acting like this?? I've told her so many times that it's not like that between me and Mackenzie. We are getting quite a few looks now, but I ignore them.

Hannah looks close to tears now and doesn't say anything. Fuck. Fuck. Fuck. I run a hand through my hair, frustrated. I have no idea what I'm suppose to do! I can't leave her like this. God.

I sigh. "Go wait in my car please, Mackenzie." I say calmly, holding out my keys. She takes them from my hand and leaves without a word.

I sit back down in the booth with Hannah and put an arm around her. She tenses up but doesn't say anything against it.

"I'm sorry, Hannah. I love you, I swear I do. I have no romantic feelings towards Mackenzie. I'm really, really sorry that I've done something to make you feel like I do. I'll make it up to you, okay?" I tell her in a calm, quiet voice. She swallows and nods her head.

"You're not a bitch. I was just frustrated because I don't know what to do to make you stop thinking I like her that way. I shouldn't have yelled, I'm sorry."

Hannah chuckles a bit and wipes her eyes. God, I'm such a dick.

"That's a lot of apologizing." She says and then sighs, "it's okay, I shouldn't be so insecure."

I lick my lips and stand up again, holding a hand out to her. "C'mon, I'll walk you to your car."

She takes my hand and stands up. I put my other hand on the back of her neck and gently pull her in for a kiss.

"Let's go." She says, pulling away after returning my kiss.

We leave the smoothie place hand in hand. I've known Hannah for a long time and I do love her, but sometimes I can't help but feel like we aren't very good in a relationship together. I know couples fight, but I think it should be easier than how it is with her.
