The next morning I wake up to my alarm. Today's Friday. For some reason they always seem to start the school year off on a Thursday, I'm not sure why. Maybe it has something to do with easing us back into it. Haha.

I throw my comforter and sheets off of me and get out of bed. When I went to bed last night I was in a pair of pajama pants, but some time during the night I got hot and pulled them off.

Sighing, I make my way to my closet and find a pair of old jeans and then I walk to my dresser and grab a t-shirt, some socks, and a pair of boxers. I lay the clothes out on my bed and walk to the bathroom across the hall from my bedroom.

After taking a quick shower I dry my dark auburn hair with a towel and then wrap it around my waist. I walk back to my bedroom and then get dressed in the clothes I laid out. I don't really want to go to school, but what teenager does?

    Oh right, Mackenzie.

    What a nerd.

I slip on my gray converse and walk out of my room after picking up my book bag and making sure I have my phone and wallet. When I walk into the kitchen I'm hit by the mouthwatering smell of bacon. My mom stands at the stove, scrambling some eggs.

"Morning, mom." I greet, grabbing a piece of bacon off a plate on the kitchen counter.

"Morning, honey. Sorry we weren't here last night for you to tell us about your first day back, your dad had a work dinner we had to go to." She tells me, glancing back at me with a smile.

I smile back. I love my mom. She's the best mom ever, I swear. She's super supporting and she's not too strict or anything like that.

"You told me about the dinner, mom." I remind. She finishes up the eggs and puts them on a plate.

"Right. Well, how was your day?" She asks. Not very good, but I'm not going to tell her that.

"It was pretty good. No homework yet." I answer and fix myself a plate with eggs and bacon.

"That's good, hun. Now I've got to go or I'll be late. Love you." She says picking up her purse and then walking over to me. She kisses me on the forehead and I groan.

"Love you too, mom." I reply. I guess my dad already left for work.

I hurry up and eat my breakfast so I can go pick Mackenzie up. She doesn't live far at all, probably only five minutes away. Once I'm finished with my food I pick up my book bag and leave the house after turning all the lights off. I lock the front door and walk to my old red jeep.

It isn't long until I'm picking up Mackenzie. I don't even have to get out of the jeep, she's already sitting outside waiting for me when I get to her house. She stands up from the rocking chair she's sitting on and sprints to the jeep.

"Good morning, Evan!" She chirps, opening the passenger door and climbing into the vehicle. She chunks her book bag into the backseat and then pulls the door shut.

"Morning, Kenzie." I reply, smiling. I shake my head at how much of a morning person she is. It seems like she's never grumpy and always.. I don't know.. refreshed, I guess.

"Everything okay with Hannah?" She asks hesitantly.

I let out a breath and shrug, "For now, I guess."

Mackenzie makes a face and looks away. She pulls her phone out of her pocket and connects it to the aux cord in my radio. I watch Mackenzie scroll through her music for a second before turning back to the road.
