• Evan •

Time flew by after Christian and I finished our project and he hasn't said anything to me since. It's like how he was acting before, but instead of giving me expressionless looks when our eyes meet, he smiles. Soft, hesitant smiles that make me feel weird.

They look so genuine and it messes with my mind. I swear he's always changing how he acts around me and if his goal was to confuse me, then it's working.

I feel a poke on my shoulder and glance to my left at Mackenzie. It's break right now and we're sitting in a pair of beanbag chairs in one of the back corners of the library.

Mackenzie makes a motion with her head and I glance in the direction she did it in. My eyes widen as I see what she was pointing out; Christian is standing in the middle of the library entrance, looking around hesitantly.

Me and Kenzie were sitting low to the ground behind some bookshelves, looking at him through an empty slot. If he were looking lower, he might be able to see us.

"I think he's looking for you." Mackenzie whispers and I glance over at her.

"Why do you think that?" I ask quietly, one eyebrow raised. Mackenzie gives me a pointed look and then rolls her eyes.

"Why else would he be in the library looking around like that at this time?" She asks and I turn back towards Christian.

"Okay, well," I hesitate, before starting to get off the beanbag chair, "I'll just make myself visible, I guess. If he is here for me, he'll say something."

"You do that." Mackenzie replies, looking up at me as I stand up fully.

I walk around the bookshelves and to where I can be seen by Christian. I don't look over at him though, just act like I'm looking through some books. A couple of seconds later I hear Christian clear his throat from behind me.

"Hey, Evan." He says and I turn around to face him, raising one of my eyebrows.

    "Christian."

The boy in front of me shifts on his feet and gives me one of those damned smiles. I feel cautious, wondering what exactly his reason for being here right now is.

"Hey, Evan. How are you?" He asks and I look at him incredulously.

"What are you up to, Christian?" I ask him demandingly. He groans loudly and scratches the back of his head.

"I was thinking..." He starts hesitantly, "that we could end this feud, or whatever, between us and be friends."

I back away from him slightly, sort of hating that I have to look up at him to look into his eyes. "You want to be my friend?"

"Yes, Evan. You're a cool guy. I don't even know why there's this stupid feud between us, anyways." Christian says, a small blush coating his cheeks that does weird things to my stomach, which I ignore.

"Because you're a dick." I point out and Christian sighs.

"I know I have been, but it's getting old. I won't be a dick to you anymore." He replies and I just sort of stare at him disbelievingly.

"You want to be my friend." I repeat.

"Yes." Christian affirms with a nod of his head. Well, I think it's pretty obvious what I'm going to say.

"Alright."

Christian's weird eyes widen comically and his mouth drops open in surprise. It's a look I've never seen on his face before, and it's quite hilarious.

"Y-you're agreeing?" He asks, shocked. I frown slightly and nod my head. He narrows his eyes at me and looks me up and down.

"Really? You're not messing with me?" He questions.

"If you really want to be my friend, Christian, then you'll just have to trust that I'm not." I tell him. Truthfully, I agreed because I want to see what he's up to. But I guess if he really does want to be friends.... then I wouldn't really mind. Ugh. This is weird.

"Okay, you're right." He replies and, right after he does, the bell rings. "I'll text you later, okay? Maybe we can... hang out or something."

I nod my head before turning away from him and going back to where I was with Mackenzie. She gives me a questioning look.

    "What was that all about?"

"He wants to be friends." I reply, picking up my book bag and avoid looking at her. I start walking out from behind the bookshelves and Mackenzie catches up with me.

"And you agreed?" She asks and I can tell by the tone of her voice that she didn't expect that. I glance over at her out of the corner of my eye.

"Why not? Like you said before, it's not like he's been messing with me this year. Plus, if he's trying to pull something I had to agree to find out what it is." I tell her. She sighs, rolling her eyes.

"Okay, Evan. This is a great idea." She says sarcastically.

    "Why wouldn't it be?"

"Well, you are literally going into this 'friendship' expecting it to be some ploy to mess with you."

"Not really... I just want to see if it is." I say with a frown. She gives me a look and I ignore it. Seconds later she is standing right in front of me, causing me to have to stop in my tracks. Before I can even ask what she wants, she's thumping my nose.

"Mackenzie! That shit hurts." I complain, bringing my hand up to rub my nose.

"Well you're being stupid, but I know I can't stop you. Just maybe actually try to be his friend?" She says and moves out of the way so we can continue walking to class.

"I will." I reply, just as we get to our class. We go inside and take our seats and I can't help wondering when Christian is going to text me and what exactly he plans to do.
