Ever since that one afternoon, the two groups started to hang out together every break and lunch break, ignoring Pete and Mikey's groans and objections and pleas.
They would all sit in the music room, sometimes to play together, but usually to talk about themselves. Turns out they had a lot in common.Joe and Ray even once had an argument over whose afro was the best, and everyone was cheering them on - lunch in the music room had never been this fun.
Gerard was certainly proud of himself for making new friends, and he finally had someone to talk to about his great passion for singing, he got along with Patrick very well.Mikey sat alone again one lunch, the class before had dismissed early so he grabbed his - now fixed - bass, and strummed quietly to a song Gerard had written that he particularly liked.
Soon enough, the flock of seven boys tumbled into the room and sat in their usual places - Patrick and Gerard by the window, Andy in the corner at the drums, Frank, Joe and Ray on the three chairs in the middle, and Mikey sitting on a chair in another corner with Pete sitting on the table next to him. They instinctively sat like this, based on their music abilities, obviously, Pete would never want to sit next to Mikey.
Everyone immediately began talking, while the two bassists sat in silence. Pete tuned his bass to avoid the awkwardness lingering around the two, and nearly snapped a string. He then flicked at Mikey, who was giggling behind his hands.
"What's so funny, fuckface?" He grunted, not looking up from the guitar. Mikey smirked and replied in the most sarcastic tone,
"Just your amazing skills." He grinned up at Pete, who weakened at the sight of Mikey smiling, and smiled back from on top of the table,
"I'm just amazing, aren't I?"+
"Dude! I'm telling you! Jennifer was definitely checking you out!" Joe was whisper-shouting at Brendon, who yawned and swatted at Joe's ear as they walked along the corridor to their music lesson.
"I told you, I'm fucking dating Ryan. But like, no homo."
He mumbled as he sat in the seat at the back of the music class when Mr Green walked in.There was no hesitation to start the lesson, because after working at the school for nearly his entire life, Mr Green didn't want any more grey hairs from stress. He gave zero fucks for education.
"Today you will be partnering up for project work. You can choose your partners, but I would recommend somebody who plays the same or similar instruments to you. Your task is to produce a music piece based on your skills for the end of the month. You should work outside of lessons as well as in."
The reactions were a varied mix of groans and mumbled cheers.
Several people chose their partners easily, like Gerard and Patrick or Ray and Joe.Mikey looked around the class, scanning for other bass players.
Dallon had already partnered up with Lindsey, meaning the only other bassist in the lesson was Pete. Fuck.
Pete scowled across the room when he saw Mikey frown at him and yelled,
"Sir! I can't work with him!" But Mr Green only turned and gestured them together, not listening to their excuses. He was too fucking done with kids to bother. They sat together in tense silence, refusing to talk to the other, glaring when they caught the other looking.
"Eyes off my bass or I'll gouge them out." Pete muttered, and Mikey looked up at him, stunned, before scoffing,
"You couldn't do that, pussy.""Watch me." And Pete lashed out at Mikey, who fell off his chair in shock, not really expecting sudden movement.
Pete laughed as he loomed over the crumpled figure on the floor, before remembering that the same boy was laughing with him over a game of Mario Kart, and how nice he actually seemed in comparison to how he was right now.
Feeling a sudden wave of guilt, Pete was offering him a hand up without thinking.
"Don't touch me, freak." Mikey dodged Pete's touch and worried gaze, he knew Pete was too nasty to actually care about him.Pete quickly pulled his arm away and kicked Mikey's side, what had gotten into him?

The group sat in the music room, minus Pete and Mikey, who were sent a lunchtime detention for their 'behaviour'. The rest were laughing at what had happened.
"But seriously, did you see Pete's face when he saw Mikey on the floor?" Andy giggled as Ray replied,
"He looked so guilty, he obviously likes Mikey."The guys were smirking and laughing, not noticing the door which had opened behind them.
"Who likes me?" Mikey walked in, followed by Pete, who was frowning stupidly.
"What! Nobody! Pete, what's up?" Patrick looked at his best friend, who was already seated on top of his table. He looked up from his thumb and mumbled,
"Paper cut."
"Yeah those fucking suck, man." Frank grimaced, trying to sympathize with Pete.
Mikey turned to look between the pair and laughed,
"Wimps."Frank squinted at Mikey, before rolling his eyes and announcing,
"I better go anyway, stupid music project with Ryan Ross." And fled the room without another word."Which one's Ryan?" Asked Andy.
"Isn't he Brendon's boyfriend?" Replied Gerard, turning to Patrick, but looking across the room as Mikey giggled,
"Isn't he the one with the... uh... strange milk obsession?"Pete threw his head back laughing, and shoved Mikey on the arm, who giggled louder in response.
The others shared a knowing glance before running off, due to 'project work', leaving Pete and Mikey alone."That fucking project." Mikey sighed, placing his bass on his lap as he rubbed his forehead.
"Oh piss off, I don't want to do it with you."
"Do you think I want to do it with you, Princess Peach?" Mikey glared at Pete for a moment, before breaking his straight mouth into a small smile.
Pete laughed quietly,
"Fuck you, man, I forgot about that."Maybe Mikey wasn't that bad. Pete thought he was cute when he smiled or laughed on rare occasions, and his laugh was perfect, while Pete felt his own sounded like rusted foghorns. Pete was confused. Since when had Mikey been cute? And what was this unfamiliar feeling in his stomach, like it was all knotted up?
His thoughts conflicted his head as he watched Mikey play the beginning of one of his brother's songs. He watched Mikey's calloused fingers strum each string in awe.
He looked up at Mikey and asked,
"Um, so which song is this?"
Mikey stopped strumming and pushed up his glasses. "Not sure myself, to be really honest." He smiled, before continuing, "but I think its called Thanks For Some Venom, or some shit like that." He waved his hand vaguely in the air.Pete smiled as he nodded, "that's really good, could you teach me it?"
Mikey laughed in response,
"I'm not even that great myself but I'll try." And Pete thrust his bass into his lap, staring at Mikey as he copied his hand movement.
He was convinced that Mikey was a horrible person, but at this moment, he felt like Mikey was an old friend. And the knotted feeling in Pete's stomach just didn't go away, not even when he had happily said goodbye to Mikey and walked to his next lesson. What the fuck was going on?
gUiSE I KNOW ITS CALLED THANK YOU FOR THE VENOM I JUST FELT LIKE BEING AN IDIOT.
