Patrick, Pete, Joe and Andy were gathered in Patrick's basement, they were supposed to be playing music as they were considering forming a band. But instead, the four lay about, eating skittles and talking.

"I don't know man, you should definitely get a tattoo." Joe took a gulp from his beer can, which he had found in Patrick's fridge.

"I couldn't ever!" Patrick sat up on the couch, next to Andy, and stared at Joe on the floor.

"Come on dude, we all have them." Pete stood up from next to Joe and rolled up his shirt to show off his newest inking on his stomach.

Patrick's eyes widened as he saw the tattoo.
"When did you get that?" He almost yelled at Pete, Patrick had obviously adopted to role as the parent of the group.

Pete rolled his eyes at his dramatic best friend, and answered,
"That's not important. What is important though, is-"

Joe interrupted Pete before he began on his ranting spiral.
"Mikey. We get it, you think Mikey's important. You love Mikey, we know. We get it, we get it. Okay?"

Joe's outburst had no effect on Pete, however, who carried on as if it was a normal conversation.
"Yeah, you're right. I do love him. And I told him that and-"

"And he ran away, we know. And we know that he looked at you weird, and we know that you might have scared him off with what you said, we fucking know, and we don't even want to."
Patrick was the second to interrupt Pete, and the latter stopped to blink at Patrick in surprise.

"How... how'd you know that?"

Joe was so fucking fed up of talk about Mikey, that he yelled at Pete once again.
"BECAUSE YOU WON'T SHUT UP ABOUT IT!"

"Oh."

The basement was silent for about five minutes, before Andy spoke up for nearly the first time that day.
"You know, I think I know why Mikey was scared off."

Pete's back stiffened, Andy was going to put his opinion. And when Andy put his opinion, it was never wrong, mainly because Andy was so observant. Pete leapt across the room, and sat expectantly at Andy's feet, face in an innocent expression as if asking Andy to continue.

Andy sighed.
"It's obvious, isn't it? Mikey is scared of your love. Mikey is scared of loving you. He'd only be scared if he loves you or hates you."

Pete's face was unreadable, it was the many emotions going through his head. But it wasn't possible, Mikey wouldn't love him. How could his enemy love him? Mikey still hated him, after all, he did hit Pete. Then he ran off when Pete mentioned love, because he hated the fact that Pete loved him.

That was it. Pete was sure he had answered his own question.

"You're right, he hates me. He fucking hates me, and I fell for the fucker, he played me. I bet he planned this all!"
Pete finally spoke, glaring at Andy. Pete was certain of his own prediction, and nobody could get his hopes up only to break his heart.

He wouldn't let anyone else give him false hope.

Andy sighed in exasperation, but left it. Pete wouldn't listen.
Pete stood up after more uncomfortable silence, and announced that he was leaving. As much as he liked his friends, he was constantly with Mikey on his mind and it was pissing all four of them off, including himself.

Joe raised a finger and yelled across the room,
"Don't forget my party on Sunday! Two days!"

Pete nodded before fleeing from the room, and as he left the house, he contemplated his relationship with Mikey. As much as he wanted to hate Mikey, he couldn't. He just couldn't hate when love was clearly the stronger emotion.
