Sam

A few days later, and everyone was beginning to recover, everything starting to calm down. My side blazed with pain constantly. Every time I looked in the mirror, I seemed paler. I was getting confused a lot, unable to concentrate on anything. My head was pounding almost constantly, and I felt cold all the time. I didn’t think that that was good, but everyone had needed the time. That much was obvious in how they were acting, they were all calmer, but tired, getting over the attack in their own ways.

I was sitting in the control room, trying to work, but unable to concentrate at all. I felt a little delirious, and my breathing was faster than it should have been. My entire body was aching, and I was suppressing shivers. I gave up on my work, and got up, making my way downstairs, to the medic floor. I found Bruce cleaning up in a vacant room, and knocked on the open door.

He turned around and smiled at me, before frowning.

‘Sam, are you ok? You look...’ he trailed off, walking over to me and helping me to the bed as I finished his sentence.

‘Like hell, I know. I haven’t slept since. But that’s not the problem, I need you to look at something for me.’ I told him, and he frowned.

‘What happened?’ he asked, looking me over. I looked up, into his eyes, as he placed a hand against my forehead, his eyebrows knitting together. ‘You’re burning up.’

I took off my sweater, and rolled up my tank top, revealing the bandage I had strapped on in haste that day. ‘It happened during the attack, but everyone was freaking out, and it wasn’t too bad, so I cleaned it out as strapped it up myself.’ I told him, and he frowned as I took off the bandage.

He took a sharp breath, looking at the wound, before looking up at me. I glanced down at the cut, to see that it had become infected. Well, that would explain everything that I had been feeling recently.

‘Why didn’t you come to me sooner?’ he whispered, getting me to lie down, and moving to the other side of the bed, to get a better look. I sighed shakily, wincing as he began washing it out with saline.

‘You were all so busy. And it wasn’t that bad when I strapped it up. I kind of just...’ I trailed off. ‘I know, it was ridiculously stupid, but I just... I had to try to find Alex.’ I admitted, closing my eyes, as Bruce continued to clean out the wound.

He sighed heavily, and I opened my eyes, looking at him. ‘Sam...’ he began, before shaking his head, and starting to patch me up. ‘I’d say something, but I can’t exactly say something that will change your nature. But you need to start putting yourself first sometimes.’ he said, stitching up the wound. ‘That’s going to take some heavy-duty anti-biotics to heal up.’ he told me.

‘Have you been feeling light-headed, headaches...?’ he asked, and I nodded.

‘I’ve been quite chilled, and I’ve had a constant headache.’ I admitted, and he sighed again.

‘Sam, you have to tell us these things. I know you don’t like us fussing over you, but I’m telling the others this. This is not ok.’ he told me sternly. I dropped my gaze as he dressed and bandaged the cut.

‘I’m sorry.’ I told him, my voice small. I didn’t think that by not telling them, that they’d end up worrying even more. When he finished, I sat up carefully as he cleaned his hands. He stood in front of me, taking off his glasses and looking at me sternly, taking my hands in his.
