Sam
The elevator stopped and opened up to reveal the garage, where I ran out excitedly to the finally-returned member of the motoring family: Steve’s Harley.
Steve chuckled as I ran my hands over the handlebars. He came forward and took out a helmet. I crinkled my nose at it, raising an eyebrow at Steve.
‘I’m not wearing that.’ I told him, and he chuckled, putting it down on the floor before kissing my nose.
‘I know. I just wanted to see your reaction.’ he said, grinning at me. ‘You’re cute when you crinkle your nose.’
He climbed onto the bike, starting her up. I grinned and ran around the side, putting on my jacket, before climbing on behind him. I wrapped my arms around his waist as I had before and he revved the engine. He pulled out of the garage and out, into the streets of New York.
He wove his way through traffic and past flashing lights, until we reached Brooklyn. He pulled up outside a small set of apartments, not unlike my own. We climbed the steps, and Steve opened the door, holding it open for me. I smiled at him and stepped inside. He closed the door after us and took my hand, leading me upstairs. He let go of my hand momentarily to open his apartments’ door. He let me in first before following, closing the door behind him.
A small table sat before us, set for two people, with two candles lit, shining brightly. I turned around to Steve and grinned at him. He put his hands on either side of my face and kissed me deeply, giving me tingles and making me go weak at the knees. The power this man had over me was colossal and dangerous, and I loved it. His arms went around my waist, holding me up and pressing me close to him.
There was no battle for dominance as I completely succumbed to him. We eventually separated for air. One of his hands was around my waist and the other entangled in my hair. Both of my hands were around his neck, but I moved one of them to brush his hair back, off his face.
‘Your hair’s grown.’ I stated simply, twirling it in my fingers. Steve sighed and buried his face in the crook of my neck, pulling me closer to him. As he pulled me closer, I closed my eyes, breathing in his familiar scent. After a while, he pulled back and looked at me, his blue eyes big and sad.
‘I’ve missed you, Sam.’ he said quietly. I kissed him gently once more.
‘I’ve missed you too, Steve. More than you could know.’ I told him honestly. He gave me a small, sad smile before leading me over to the table, which he had set so that the two chairs were beside each other. He held one of them out for me, taking my jacket from my hands. He hung it with his own, across the back of the sofa, before stepping into the kitchen and opening the fridge. He popped the cork on a bottle of wine before carrying it over to the table and pouring two glasses, giving me a fleeting kiss as he did so.
He went back to the kitchen and brought back two plates of steaming food. I kissed his cheek in thanks as he sat down beside me. As we ate, we talked about meaningless nothings, but it was nice nonetheless. We both steered clear of what we had been doing since we had seen each other, not wanting to spoil the meal.
When we had finished eating, Steve put away the plates, and grabbed his wine glass and the bottles in one hand, holding the other out to me. I picked up my own glass and took his outstretched hand. He led me to the sofa, where we sat down beside each other. I took off my boots and curled my feet up beneath me. Steve watched my every move carefully, and I blushed under his piercing gaze. He took my hand gently, his thumb rubbing circles gently on the back of my hand.
‘So, what’s really happened with you since I saw you last?’ Steve asked gently, watching me carefully. I shuddered involuntarily, and Steve moved closer to me, putting mine and his glasses down on the table, before wrapping an arm around my shoulders. I wrapped my arms around his waist, burying my face in the crook of his neck. Just as usual, his scent of pine, leather and motor oil calmed me down immediately. His arms pulled me close and I sighed. I wasn’t going to lie to him.
