Sam
I reached the floor where Alex was being held, and was met by chaos. I heard a thundering roar, and knew that Bruce had hulked out. RHOKA and Ten Rings soldiers were everywhere, shooting, fighting and throwing knives at all the SHIELD agents who had swarmed, defending their life’s work.
I concentrated, dragging the electricity from the wires in the walls, and sending it shooting through the floor, up, through the feet of all the intruders who weren’t in direct contact with any of the SHIELD agents. They crumpled to the floor, either dead or unconscious, but I didn’t want to know which. The others were brought down in seconds, the SHIELD agents taking advantage of their momentary confusion.
They nodded their thanks to me, and I nodded in acknowledgement, before sprinting off, down the hall, towards Alex’s cell. I fought my way through, to get into the room, just as Alex was walking out through a hole blown through the wall. He stopped and looked back at me grinning. I took a step to run after him, only to find my foot catch on a trip wire. Before I could do anything, the room was blown to pieces, and I was thrown back, across the hall, into the wall.
Ash, rubble and smoke filled the hall, along with a searing heat. I coughed, trying to see what was around me. I heard a groan beside me, and I saw a SHIELD badge through the smoke, so I helped the person, who turned out to be a man, to his feet, both of us coughing and spluttering. A great wind blew through the corridor, clearing the smoke and revealing the damage. A lot of people had gone down from both sides. I looked up to see Thor standing at the end of the hall, holding his hammer, looking around grimly. He nodded towards the hall opposite me, evidently waiting for me to follow. I looked to the agent I was holding up, and he nodded, gesturing for me to go.
I ran after Thor, both of us taking down RHOKA and Ten Rings attackers as we went.
‘They broke Alex out. He’s gone.’ I told him as we ran. Evidently, it was worse somewhere else. Thor’s expression darkened, and he sped up. We reached the hall outside the control room, where Steve, Tony, and Natasha were holding them back from getting into the control room, Clint shooting arrows from some unseen hiding place.
I concentrated, turning invisible. Thor watched as I did, frowning. I ran forward, dodging until I reached the centre of the large group. I began taking them down from the centre, leaving them incapable of fighting back, seeing as they couldn’t see me. But one of them did get lucky. He lunged with a knife, and it slid straight into my stomach, just under my ribs on the left-hand side. I gasped and grimaced, but now was not the time to let an injury beat me. I took the knife out myself, concealing it too, and sliced the guy’s neck.
Soon, I began clearing a ring around me, trying to knock them out as much as I could, rather than killing. I hated killing people. The others were also making some headway, leaving about twenty of the original troop of about sixty. I let myself become visible again, and Clint dropped from his hiding place. I glanced into the control room, the analysts still there, cowering in fear.
Tony took a step towards me, and I noticed him limping. I frowned and he sighed.
‘Before I got the suit on.’ he said simply, before a sound drew my attention.
The whistling of an arrow cutting through air. Instinctively, I raised my hand, closing my fist as fast as I could. As I did, I felt a thick, round, cool carbon-fibre arrow slide into my hand. Steve took a step forward, before halting. I looked at the arrow, my eyes following its line, and glaring at the shooter, who I saw hiding in the rafters, down the hall. He got up and moved quickly, but not before I had thrown the arrow, speeding it up and guiding it with my mind. He cried out and fell from the rafter, clutching at the arrow now protruding from his shoulder.
