Chapter 3

I hadn't seen Riley all weekend, and yes I was looking - quite often and it could be considered desperate. Her bike and Josh's truck were gone when I got back from the game and party on Friday night. I spent a good portion of my weekend wondering where the hell she was and the other half picturing my hands around her waist. Even right now I'm leaning up against the lockers making out with my beautiful girlfriend and I can't stop thinking about her. Riley is like permanently etched into my brain and I can't get her out, personally I wouldn't want to even if I had the option. "LUKE!" I continued to kiss Maya hoping Zay would disappear, he hadn't stopped talking about Riley since she told him to 'fuck off' last Wednesday and for whatever weird reason that only pushed him harder. It's incredibly annoying that he can talk about her so openly, and it's even more infuriating I can't get him to stop. That would look oddly suspicious. "LUKE!"

With not a whole lot of reluctance but with a whole lot of force, I yanked my lips away from Maya. "What Zay?" Maya blushed furiously and wiped her lips, essentially fixing whatever it is she's wearing on her lips.

"Have you seen her?"See what I mean? He won't stop! When my response was a simple eye roll he tried to negotiate. "Come on dude, you live right across the street from her."

"She wasn't at home. There were no vehicles in the driveway." His expression dulled, and I felt the cold stare of my girlfriend stuck on my face. That didn't sound good. "Chill Zay. You're coming off desperate." And your basically stalking her isn't? Ugh, my conscience cuts me no slack. Seconds later the entire school hears the roar of the motorcycle, she must have just gotten back into town, both vehicles were still not in the driveway this morning. I have a problem. As usual she was wearing her dark jeans and fitted tank top but was wearing a hoodie today, from the past week of getting to know her I have come to realize that wearing a hoodie is unusual for her. I kind of miss that leather jacket if I'm being honest with myself. It's incredibly hot. After removing her helmet, I noticed her use her hair as a shield before she abruptly tossed the hood up and jogged inside, never looking up from the ground. Something was off, this woman exuded absolute confidence at all times. "Morning Riley." I greet in hopes she'll look at me.

"Sparky." I'm acknowledged but she just shuts her locker after sticking her helmet inside.

"Hey sugar." Zay leaned against the lockers, an arrogant smirk transformed into a look of disbelief. What's he on about now? "Holy shit, what happened to you?"

My body tenses, it's a mixture of his tone and obviously the question Zay asked. Is she hurt? Trying to remain as calm as possible, I simply ask, "what?"

"Leave it the hell alone." She sneered and dropped her head a little lower. Zay lightly tugged on the hood and when it fell her head snapped up to reveal a bruised face. "Son of a bitch!" The hood got thrown back up, but it was too late. I had seen it and my attempt at a calm demeanor had shattered. Riley shoved him, making him stumble back a few feet.

"Maya give us a minute." My jaw clenched and my body shook, when she went to protest I wasn't having it, "GO!" Zay and Maya left us alone like I was on fire and I slammed her locker shut that she was using as a distraction to not look at me. "Who the hell did this to you?" Her face was decorated with deep purple and somewhat blue bruises. Her cute as a button nose was swollen and there was a whelp on her chin. That mouth of hers still looked irresistible even with the gash on her bottom lip. That only made me more furious.

"Awe is that concern I hear in your voice?"

I took a step forward and narrowed my eyes, her sarcasm was not appreciated and she wasn't going to distract me. "Riley who the fuck did this to you?"
