Chapter 2
I jogged across the street, my feet padding across the concrete driveway before I come to a halt in front of her and smile, "Who's this Riley?" The man that continually pops up asks. Funnily enough, I have the same question for him.
"That's Sparky." Riley took a drink of what I know to be glucose and she squinted her eyes shut, clearly not enjoying the taste. I wonder where she came up with that nickname? Is it a good thing that I have one or does she simply not remember my name? "Do they not make this shit in any sort of flavor? God."
"It's for energy, it's for training it isn't supposed to taste good."
I chuckle lightly and hold out my hand for him to take. "I'm Lucas by the way, Sparky is just a nickname she so affectionately calls me." I interjected, I am going to say that she knows my name and she just likes me so much she nicknamed me. No matter how untrue that probably is.
The dark haired man turned towards me and took my hand quickly. "Josh, nice to meet you." And that's all I got from him till he turned back to - whoever Riley is to him. "Riles back and biceps today, 30 seconds of rest in between sets, 8 to 10 reps. Go." She ran into the garage like a bat out of hell and I caught a glimpse of practically a full blown gym in their garage. How did I not see this being moved in? Aside from insane jealousy coursing through my veins at the set up they have, my next thought was why is she working out? She's already incredibly tiny. And the workouts she is doing is to increase muscle... interesting. Add this to the list of mysterious things Riley does.
"Holy crap, nice set up." Me, being me I entered the garage not even thinking twice about over stepping boundaries or even asking to go check it out. Lat pull down machines, there's a dumbbell set that has adjusting weights so you won't have to have a ton of space for a million dumbbells, there's even a squat rack and bar with weights stacked on it. I'm going to say there's 190 pounds on there, and assume it was Josh who had used that last.
"Thanks Sparky." She replies while pulling down and connecting the 'T' bar to her chest. Even if she gave me that nickname because she can't remember my name, I kind of like it. So, jokes on her.
I hear a sigh sounding from behind me, turning on my heels my eyes meet with an exasperated Josh. "Riles, you can do more than 50 on lat pull downs." The brunette dropped the weight set and glared behind her, if looks could kill he'd be 6 feet under. "Your minimum is 60."
"It's called a super set." She snaps and rises off the seat for a small break.
"I didn't tell you to do super sets." Awkward, this whole conversation is very awkward. Aside from the one I was sure was floating in between Riley and I, there were no romantic vibes. I don't think they're together. And judging by their similar looks, I'm going to hope and pray that they are related. I know I shouldn't be thinking these things, I'm dating Maya but it is like she doesn't even exist when Riley is around.
"It's how you build muscle. That and drop sets idiot." Her eyes narrowed towards me after snapping at Josh, "do you mind like leaving?" Ouch, damage to my ego.
Faking nonchalance I nod in agreement and flash her a million dollar smile. "No problem."
"See ya' later Sparky!"
I exited the garage with as much dignity as I could muster, and meandered towards my house. Why doesn't she want me around? I'm pretty delightful, or I would like to think so. I think this is more or less damaging because I've never had a girl ask me to leave. I lift my head off the pavement and mead a pair of icy blue orbs. Maya, my girlfriend was waiting for me. Correction, she was waiting for me in utter disgust at what she had just witnessed. "What was that?"
