1.

"What happened to you?" Kayla asked me as I passed by her on my way to my locker.

I opened my locker and started grabbing what I needed for my morning classes.

"My parents left before me for work and I didn't want to wake up any of the workers to driver me so I decided to walk to school today." I said as I dropped my bag by my feet and took of my drenched jacket. "Unfortunately for me halfway to school it started pouring so here I am making puddles everywhere I go."

"That sucks." Kayla said.

I put on my jacket I had in my locker and then closed my locker. I picked up my school bag and turned and looked at Kayla.

"Are you and Broden still not talking to each other?" I asked her when I saw her bloodshot eyes.

Kayla and her cousin Broden got in an argument Saturday night after the dance. She called me yesterday and told me but didn't say why they argued.

"Have you not called or texted Bobby yet?" She asked.

Neither of us wanted to talk about what was bothering us.

"So what's with the gloves?" She asked changing the subject.

I was wearing fingerless gloves for two reasons:

1. They covered my bruised wrist.

I knew Kayla and Harvey would freak out if they saw and Harvey would demand to know who did that to me. My classmates would probably start weird rumors about how I got it and it would just not be good. So I found a pair of fingerless gloves that I bought last winter and put them on.

2. It was freezing outside.

I wanted to keep my hands warm but not have to be taking off my gloves every time I needed to write or use my phone so fingerless gloves were the answer. They were also really comfortable.

"It's cold." I said.

She nodded understanding.

"Is that Amy?" Kayla asked pointing down the hallway.

Amy was talking to a guy who I couldn't see who it was. She looked mad at him and he seemed to be ignoring her as he rummaged through his locker.

"Yeah." I said. "Why?"

"People are spreading rumors about her because apparently someone saw her and some guy out in the football field during the dance. I'm sure they weren't doing anything, if it's even true that they saw her, but people are making it seem otherwise." Kayla said. "I wanted to warn her but it doesn't look like she's in the best of moods right now. I'll talk to her later."

The bell rang.

"I'll see you later." She said. "Good luck." She gave me a thumbs up.

I nodded and headed towards class.

When I got to class Bobby was already there sitting in his usual seat next to mine. I walked over and took a seat.
