➳ Adventure #2: Part 1: "lunch with the idiots"

1.

"What do you mean you're sick too?" I asked Kayla. She had texted me this morning saying she wasn't going to be at school and I had called as my mother drove me to school.

"I went to visit Harvey yesterday and I guess I caught what he has." She said and sneezed. "I'm sorry."

"I guess I'll be eating alone today." I said. "I hope you feel better."

"Thanks." She said.

I waved goodbye to my mother as I got out of the car and grabbed my school bag. I closed the car door and put the cell phone back next to my ear as I walked toward the school's front doors.

"So how did dinner go yesterday?" Kayla asked me.

"Danny's gave me a promise ring." I said and I knew Kayla had fallen off her bed when I heard loud thud.

"He did what?" She exclaimed.

"Well he was going to give me a promise ring. He was all like 'Hope I know you like me so let's get married and run off into the sunset together.' and I kept telling him I didn't like him and was even going to pretend to stab myself to get out of dinner but he just kept going."

"What the hell is wrong with that guy?" Kayla demanded. "He's so in love with himself. He should give himself a promise ring."

I laughed and opened the front school's door walking inside. I headed toward the B Wing where my locker was located.

"Okay tell me what happened." Kayla said.

"So we were waiting for our dessert and suddenly Danny's asks me if I have a boyfriend and I said no. So then he asked if I had a fiance and I was all like 'I'm fifteen! Why would I have a fiance?' and that when he starts talking about how I'm so in love with him and blah blah blah and he takes out a box with a ring from his pocket and I'm panicking because I don't want to cause a scene but I don't want a promise ring. My dad looked like he was about to lose his head and then a waiter dropped a slice of cake into Danny's lap."

Kayla laughed.

"And I look up at the waiter who had just saved me and I see Bobby Harris standing there and he was like 'Hope? Why didn't you tell me you were coming to have dinner at my work, babe?' and I took my chance to escape and stood up and was like 'This is my boyfriend Bobby and we're leaving now.' and Bobby and I went into the kitchen."

"Holy crapsicle!" Kayla yelled and I had to move the cell phone away from my ear. I opened my locker and started getting the books I needed for my first four classes. "Back up a bit! Are you talking about Bobby Harris? Like the Bobby Harris who goes to our school and goes around asking random girls out?"

"Yeah."

"He's hot!" Kayla said.

"He's annoying but he did help me out so I guess he's not that bad." Just like if I had summoned him he walked over from where he had been standing talking to his friends. "Maribel and Danny asked about Harvey and you. When I told them that Harvey was sick the first thing they though was that he caught something at school. It's like if they think I go to a dump for school. They even started talking about their school and how absolutely wonderful it was and their parents started telling my parents how they could help me get into the same school as them. So then my dad and I said how my school actually helps the students achieve greatness no matter if your poor or rich and how their school basically discriminates against the poor."
